Roscommon club pays tribute to ‘lovely lad’ who was ‘always smiling and full of chat’

A County Roscommon GAA Club has paid tribute to a “beloved and cherished son, devoted big brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, friend and work colleague” who passed away suddenly earlier this week.

The late Stephen Cannon, The Avenue, Ballinlough, County Roscommon, was the son of Michael Glaveys LGFA Secretary Colette Keane and stepson of Michael Glaveys Chairperson and current Roscommon U-16 girls’ football manager, Tommy Keane.

He was also brother to Roscommon U-16 girls’ footballer, Robyn Keane.

One tribute on RIP.ie said that “Stephen was such a lovely lad, always smiling and full of chat.” 

Michael Glaveys GAA, LGFA and Rounders Club said that the club was deeply saddened by the sudden passing of club member and player Stephen Cannon, adding that “Stephen was much loved by all who knew him, and his loss will be felt immensely.” 

“Stephen was a beloved and cherished son, devoted big brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, friend and work colleague.

“Our hearts are broken, and our prayers are with you all at this very sad and difficult time,” the club’s tribute continued.

Roscommon LGFA said that it would keep the Cannon, Nevin/Keane families in their thoughts and prayers at this sad time.

The late Stephen Cannon is predeceased by his beloved grandparents Seamus Nevin and Michael and Mary Keane, and his aunt Annemarie Cannon.

He will be sadly missed by his heartbroken mother Colette, his father Jamie, and stepfather Tommy, his sister Robyn, brothers Tiernan and Fionn, his grandparents Anne Nevin, and Gerry and Ann Cannon, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a large circle of friends.

Reposing at his home (F45 AD85) on Thursday evening from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.. Funeral arriving at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Ballinlough on Friday afternoon for Mass of the Resurrection at 1 p.m. followed by burial in Ballinlough Cemetery.

House strictly private to family only on Friday morning please.
