Roscommon farmer appeals for information on stolen sheep worth €3,500

Gardaí at Clonark station are investigating the crime.
A farmer in South Roscommon is appealing for any information that may help trace twelve of his sheep that were stolen earlier this year.
The twelve animals - a ram and eleven heavily pregnant sheep - were taken at the end of January from a farm in Belrea, Drum. The Texel sheep are thought to be worth approximately €3,500.
Gardaí at Clonark station are investigating the crime but, speaking to the Herald, the farmer is appealing to the public for any information that might still lead to their recovery or the apprehension of the thieves.
All the sheep were electronically tagged but there are fears that the tags may have been removed, and the sheep retagged for sale at a mart in the region.
It’s also thought that whoever took them would need a knowledge of farming and of rounding up sheep with a sheepdog.
It’s understood that the Drum area has been hit with a series of animal thefts recently.
Thieves taking sheep and cattle are now using more sophisticated methods in targeting farms such as the use of drones.
