Roscommon University Hospital (RUH) has donated reusable medical equipment valued at €150,000 to Zambia, as part of a commitment to global health equity through the EQUALS initiative.

The EQUALS project, established by the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and the HSE, aims to reduce global health inequalities and partners with local health services in low-income countries to deliver vital medical equipment and training.

This most recent donation from RUH will help further strengthen healthcare infrastructure in Zambia, improve patient care and support medical staff.

“We are proud to support the EQUALS initiative,” said Marie Doorly, interim hospital manager. “This donation reflects our hospital’s dedication not only to serving our local community, but also to extending care and compassion across borders.”

The EQUALS project began in Zambia and remains primarily focused on activities there. However, it has also extended support through equipment donations to Uganda and Ukraine.
