Roscommon householders suffer another water outage

The Cloonfad area has been hit with another water outage.
Householders in the Cloonfad area being left without water again this morning has been described as an “intolerable” situation by a local councillor.
Fianna Fáil councillor Paschal Fitzmaurice has expressed his frustration that a troublesome local mains is again the cause of yet another water outage in the general Cloonfad area.
The latest outage happened some time during the early hours of Friday morning.
Cllr Fitzmaurice said there was a local team from Uisce Éireann (formerly Irish Water) currently investigating the problem but that it could be several hours before the water will be back on.
“The people in the greater Cloonfad area have suffered greatly over the last three years with multiple amounts of bursts on the mains between Granlahan and Lowberry,” said Cllr Fitzmaurice. “There is no water again in the Cloonfad greater area following a water outage sometime during the night.”
He said the mains had clearly gone past its sell-by-date for some time and should have been replaced a long time ago.
“I will be contacting Irish Water again this morning regarding this intolerable issue for these people, they've suffered greatly,” he said.
The councillor pointed out that on average, water outage for any population would be once per year, but the Cloonfad community had suffered at times anything up to 10 outages per year.
“This has greatly inconvenienced people with water out for up to a day at a time. The local team from Irish Water have done great work over the years trying to patch up a totally inferior water mains.
“I have made numerous requests to Irish Water for the mains to be replaced as I would estimate at this stage there has been up to 30 bursts on this particular mains,” he said.
The Roscommon Herald is also awaiting a response on the matter form Uisce Éireann.
