Roscommon priest to be laid to rest tomorrow
The late Fr. Billy Molloy.
Castlerea native, Fr Billy Molloy, who passed away earlier this week, will be laid to rest tomorrow, Thursday.
After his uncle’s Fr. Niall Molloy’s tragic death in 1985, Fr. Billy decided to join the priesthood at the age of 28.
He undertook his seminary education in the UK, and was ordained in Castlerea in July 1994.
He went on to work as a priest for 25 years in Salford, Manchester, working in a number of parishes.
Fr Billy retired to Ireland in 2019, to be close to family, and he had been living in Roscommon Town for a number of years before his passing.
Pre-deceased by his parents Billy and Carmel, and his uncle Fr. Niall Molloy, he is deeply regretted by his loving family; his sisters Liz, Castlerea and Ronnie, Ballina; his niece Kate and her partner Cathal; his aunt Mary (Connaughton, Roscommon); his uncle Seamus, Dublin), and his extended family, neighbours and friends.
Reposing at McDonagh’s Funeral Home, Castlerea, this evening, Wednesday, the funeral arrives at St. Patrick’s Church, Castlerea on Thursday morning, for Mass of the Resurrection at 11 a.m., with burial afterwards in St. Coman’s cemetery, Roscommon.
