Elphin Community College student Lucia Revuelta scooped a major award at the Junk Kouture World Final held in Dublin last night.
Lucia’s eco-friendly creation ‘Miss Mares’ was a joint winner in the Cultural Couture Award and Innovation Award, which recognised innovative designs around maritime culture and medical materials.
A fusion of Basque and Irish maritime culture, her design is aimed at highlighting the beauty of the ocean while also raising awareness of the impact of pollution on marine life. Her creation was made from aluminium cans, sardine tins and foil.
Lucia had a hard-working backroom team of Colm Flanagan, Anna Kuspolova, Abby O’Callaghan and Kaylagh Peaty.
Originally from Bilbao in the Spanish Basque region, Lucia came to Elphin Community College as an exchange student a few years.

The strong tradition of Junk Kouture at Elphin Community College has been led by its art teacher, Susan Prendergast, who helped guide another Junk Kouture project into a World Final.
Junk Kouture is an international competition which promotes sustainable fashion by encouraging secondary school students to design, create and model unique outfits using recycled materials.
A team of Limerick school students took the overall title of Junk Kouture World Designer of the Year at the Helix theatre in Dublin last night.
