New electric car registrations for Roscommon in January 2026 increased by 195.45% with 65 registered compared to 22 registered in 2025.
New car registrations for the county in 2026 increased by 8.41% with 361 cars registered in 2026 compared to 333 registered in 2025.
Overall, nationally new car sales in January 2026 totalled 34,604 versus 33,499 for the same period in 2025, an increase of 3.3%.
Electric vehicle sales nationally increased to 7,319 in January compared to the 2025 figure of 4,923.
In the new car market share by engine type, hybrid (petrol electric) has taken the lead for the first time at 28.28% as the most popular engine type, followed by electric 21.15%, petrol 20.94%, plug-in hybrid 14.56%, and diesel 12.48%.
