Roscommon public sector workers are among more than 300,000 employees taking part in today's 24-hour nationwide strike over delays in securing a new pay agreement.
The industrial action includes healthcare staff, teachers, SNAs and civil servants, and is expected to cause widespread disruption both locally and nationally.
All secondary and primary schools across the county are closed today as teachers join the 24-hour stoppage, while health services are also being significantly affected.
This includes routine hospital procedures, outpatient appointments, community-based services, day services, primary care clinics and other scheduled care services.
Many other services involving public sector workers will be affected, including court sittings. Cases involving urgent domestic violence, childcare and custody issues are among the limited exceptions.
Roscommon County Council offices and libraries are also closed today.
Union leaders have indicated that a second 24-hour strike is planned for October 21st if an agreement on pay is not reached.
