Sinn Féin have formally ratified four candidates to contest next June’s Local Elections in County Roscommon.
Two of the candidates are new faces; Christine McDonagh from the Loughglynn/Lisacul area will stand in the Roscommon Local Electoral Area (LEA) while Rory Williams Doyle from Scramogue will run in the Boyle LEA alongside sitting long-serving Councillor Michael Mulligan of Ballaghaderreen.
Joe Harney of Taylorstown, Monksland, who polled 379 first preference votes in the 2019 elections, will run again in the Athlone LEA.
The selection conventions, held in Tibohine Community Centre and Monksland Community Centre, were attended by Chris MacManus MEP and Claire Kerrane, TD for Roscommon-Galway.
Speaking at the candidate selection conventions, Deputy Kerrane said: “It is fantastic to see such a capable team of Sinn Féin candidates selected in Joe, Christine, Michael and Rory.
"I work regularly with all of them on a variety of campaigns and issues from sustainability of the family farm and revival of our rural towns and villages to housing maintenance and provision as well as health related issues.
“I very much look forward to campaigning with them over the next number of weeks and months to ensure that we elect a bigger and stronger team of Sinn Féin councillors on Roscommon County Council that can build on the great work done by Cllr Michael Mulligan over two decades and deliver on the issues that matter locally across our county.”
