Submissions sought for €55,000 sculpture project in County Roscommon

The Strokestown sculpture project will have a commission budget of €55,000 including VAT.

A new permanent sculpture is being planned for Strokestown town centre with submissions for the project now being sought by Roscommon County Council’s Arts Office.

Original proposals are being invited from artists for the design and execution of this permanent artwork for the town. The project will have a commission budget of €55,000 including VAT.

The Arts Office wants the proposals to “respond creatively to the public space, the history, story and unique themes associated with Strokestown”.

The commission is also intended to provide opportunities for dialogue or participation with the local community. Representatives of various groups in the town will also be involved on the assessment panel.

The design of the work should include the following considerations - the architectural significance of the design of the town and buildings; the historical context of the town; an impactful feature that evokes public curiosity; collaboration with the community in the research for the piece or creation of the work.

The selection panel for the successful commission will include representatives from Strokestown Town Team, Strokestown Tidy Town Group, Roscommon County Council, a Roscommon-based artist, the National Famine Museum and Scoil Mhuire Strokestown.

Deadline for stage 1 submissions is Monday, April 7th at 5 p.m.
