Brogan's Chemco Pharmacy in Boyle has been named as a national finalist in the Irish Pharmacy Awards 2026.

The pharmacy has been shortlisted for the Athlone Pharmaceuticals Community Pharmacy Team of the Year award – a category that recognises outstanding teamwork, clinical excellence, and service to the community.

The pharmacy, which has served the people of Boyle since 1945, is one of the longest-established pharmacies in County Roscommon. Operating under the Chemco group for the past five years, it continues to be a vital healthcare resource for the town and surrounding rural area, with a 16-strong team delivering a range of clinical services including full pharmaceutical care for a local nursing home, structured blister pack services for over 160 patients, approximately 500 vaccinations annually, a patient delivery service for housebound and elderly patients, and the Common Conditions Service.

Dispensary manager Katrina has been with the pharmacy for over 22 years. Front of shop manager Mairead has been serving the Boyle community for over 24 years and is known by name to generations of patients. Together with pharmacists Rachel and Peter, and the full team of 16 staff, they have built something rare in modern healthcare, a service that combines clinical excellence with the kind of long-standing personal relationships that only come from decades of consistent, caring service.

“We are really proud of the level of patient care and the strength of the team we have built here in Brogan’s. We know our patients personally after so many years looking after them. Great communication across the team helps everyone – staff feel they can talk to each other and work together to give the best possible care. A strong combination of clinical knowledge, community connection and customer focus has been at the heart of Brogan’s Pharmacy since the day it opened,” said Peter, a pharmacist at Brogan’s Chemco Pharmacy.

As a rural community pharmacy, Brogan’s plays a role that goes well beyond dispensing. For many patients in Boyle and the surrounding area – particularly older and more isolated individuals – the pharmacy is the most accessible and trusted point of healthcare contact they have. The team’s delivery service ensures that housebound patients receive their medication safely and reliably, and the pharmacy’s seasonal community events, including popular beauty days and Christmas and summer sales, have become a fixture in the Boyle calendar. In December 2025, the pharmacy was also recognised by the Boyle Christmas Lights Committee with the Best Retail Display award – a reflection of the team’s commitment to being a genuine part of the life of the town.

The Irish Pharmacy Awards celebrate excellence across the pharmacy profession in Ireland, with the Community Pharmacy Team of the Year award among its most competitive categories. The awards ceremony takes place tonight, Saturday, June 6th.

The full team at Brogan’s Chemco Pharmacy would like to thank the community of Boyle for their ongoing support, and the patients and colleagues who contributed testimonials and feedback to the submission.
