TII won’t ‘face the music’ on accident blackspot
Scramogue Cross has been described as a “major accident blackspot”.
Disappointment has been expressed that Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) will not come into the council chamber to address a “major accident blackspot” at Scramogue Cross.
Cllr Tom Crosby expressed his concern at the December meeting of Roscommon County Council where he said it was more than disappointing that TII representatives “won’t come here and face the music and face the elected members.”
At the previous plenary meeting in November, councillors were informed that TII had not classified the junction as a “high collision location”, despite concerns over inadequate signage, road markings, and lack of public lighting at the location.
Cllr Crosby pointed out at the December meeting that it “beggars belief” that just a few hundred metres away from the new €450m N5 project, the most dangerous stretch had been left out.
The Tarmonbarry based councillor said he understood that a delegation, comprising council executive and elected members, would be meeting the TII about concerns over the junction.
“That meeting needs to be urgently set up,” he said.
Cathaoirleach of Roscommon County Council, Cllr Liam Callaghan confirmed that it was agreed at a corporate policy group meeting that it would write to the TII to arrange such a meeting.
