Two Roscommon businesses were subject to food safety orders during the month of October for breaches of food safety legislation, the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has said.

A closure order on Corrib Oil Spar Express Castlerea (Retailer), Patrick Street, Castlerea, Roscommon was imposed by the HSE’s Environmental Health Office on October 20th and lifted on October 22nd. This order was made as “adequate procedures were not in place to control pests”.

“There were sightings of mice in an area close to the delicatessen and the pest control records indicate recent activity of mice in the premises,” the HSE said.

Foodliner Supermarket (Butcher Shop), Main St, Ballaghaderreen, Roscommon was also served with a prohibition order on October 23rd prohibiting the sale of chicken legs stored in the cold room and; frozen meat stored in the ice cream chest freezer.

The HSE said the “food which had been placed on the market was not adequately labelled or identified to facilitate it's traceability through relevant documentation or information”.

“There was no labelling or traceability information for the foodstuffs identified above. There was no supplier traceability such as invoices, delivery dockets or receipts for these foods.”
