Uisce Éireann continuing efforts to restore supply to customers across County Roscommon
A number of alternative water supplies have been put in place around the county.
Uisce Éireann is continuing efforts to restore normal water supply to customers across County Roscommon today.
This follows widespread service disruptions in the county following the impact of Storm Éowyn over the weekend.
Normal supply is returning today to customers on the Castlerea Public Water Supply Scheme with water now restored to customers in the town.
Electricity has been restored to the Mullaghdooey Reservoir site and the network is continuing to recharge after some difficulties were experienced in operations over the weekend.
As the network refills and supplies return throughout the day, customers on the scheme in Ballintubber, Kilmurray, Castleplunkett and surrounding areas may experience intermittent disruption or low water pressure.
Uisce Éireann also wishes to remind customers that Boil Water Notices remain in place to protect the health of customers supplied by both the Castlerea Public Water Supply and Boyle Regional Public Supply Scheme.
These notices were issued on Sunday last, due to disinfection issues caused by power outages at the water treatment plants and reservoirs. A map of the areas impacted is available to view on the supply and service section of water.ie. All consumers affected by this notice must boil their water before drinking.
Meanwhile, customers on the North Roscommon Regional Public Water Supply Scheme may also be experiencing water outages and/or low pressure today and tomorrow (Tuesday). Areas impacted include Ballaghaderreen, Frenchpark, Sheepwalk, Fairymount, Loughglynn, Gurteen and surrounding areas.
Electrical power has not yet been restored at the Lough Gara Water Treatment Plant due to the number of faults on the line. As an interim measure, generators are being mobilised this afternoon in order to operate the plant at reduced capacity later. Low reservoir levels are leading to widespread outages and reduced pressures across the scheme.
Alternative water supplies are located at: Ballaghaderreen Fire Station, Dublin Road, Ballaghaderreen; Boyle Road, Frenchpark. Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from tankers and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure.
Customers on the Ballinlough/Granlahan Public Water Supply Scheme in West Roscommon may also be experiencing low pressures and intermittent supply. This is as a result of power outages at Lough Mask Water Treatment Plant, Barnacarroll Pumping Station and at Granlahan reservoir booster station. Although power has been restored at Lough Mask and Barnacarroll, customers in Granlahan, Ballinlough and Cloonfad may continue to experience reduced pressure or intermittent outages over the coming days.
To support impacted customers, alternative water supplies are available at: Cloonfad Village and Ballinlough Village. Due to ongoing power outages at Rockingham Spring Plant, some customers on the Boyle/Ardcarne Regional Public Water Supply Scheme may still be experiencing water supply disruptions caused by continuing power outages at reservoirs on the scheme. These recurring outages have resulted in reduced production and a delay in the restoration of a normal supply. Customers in the following areas may be impacted by low pressure or interruptions: Grangemore, Ballinameen, Croghan, and surrounding areas.
An alternative water supply is available to impacted customers in Croghan village.
Due to power outages at Castletension, Ballyfarnon Water Treatment Plant is operating at reduced capacity. As a result, customers on the Arigna Regional Water Supply Scheme in Ballyfarnon, Keadue and Arigna may be experiencing low pressures and intermittent supply in the coming days.
An alternative water supply is available to impacted customers in Arigna Village.
Uisce Éireann’s Ger Greally assured customers that Uisce Éireann is working to return the water supply to normal levels as quickly as possible.
“In the meantime, customers are urged to conserve water where possible in order to protect supply while the outages are resolved.” Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.
