Upgrade on County Roscommon library ‘nearing completion’

The library located in Dillon House is being upgraded.
The refurbishment of Ballaghaderreen library located in Dillon House is “nearing completion”.
A spokesperson for Roscommon County Council said that the contractors working on the library upgrade were nearing completion and should be in a position to soon hand over the building to the library service.
“This will allow the library team to start preparing the space, test systems, induct the staff, and stock the shelves. The library will open as soon as possible after this. An opening date will be announced in due course,” said the spokesperson.
The library, partly contained within the former home of the Dillon family, has been closed since the outbreak of the pandemic in 2020.
A temporary library premises near SuperValu, which opened just over a year ago, will continue to operate until the permanent library is ready to open.
Works on the Dillon House library includes the installation of a heating upgrade and internal insulation over three floors in the building, which is a protected structure.
There will be provision made for wheelchair accessibility, and self-service access to library spaces and the meeting room using specialist My Open Library access control technology.
