Roscommon Galway has chosen its three TDs for the 34th Dáíl, re-electing Michael Fitzmaurice yesterday, after topping the poll. He was joined this afternoon by Claire Kerrane, on 11,087, and Dr Martin Daly to the second and third seats respectively. Dr Daly was elected without reaching the quota, having got 10,234 just shy of the quota.

Shortly after 3pm today, both candidates were hoisted on to the shoulders of their supports to cheers and flashes of photography.

“I think on the back of the 2020 election a lot of people were saying there was a good bounce for Sinn Féin, a little bit of a feeling I got on the back of that," re-elected TD Deputy Claire Kerrane told the Herald. "So I’m very proud to have gotten the votes I got, and I’m looking forward to get back in.”

Newly elected Fianna Fáil TD Dr Martin Daly said he was absolutely delighted with his vote.

“I am a little overwhelmed, it didn’t dawn on me until I walked through the doors of the count centre,” the Ballygar man said. “When I saw my supporters and how much it meant to them – some of them were in tears – so I was delighted to have delivered on behalf of a team. It was a team effort, I wouldn’t be standing here without that team.”

He indicated that he would be pleased to serve in any portfolio should FF, as expected, return to government.

FG candidate Senator Aisling Dolan, who came a very respectable fourth, wished all the elected candidates well and thanked people for their vote too.

It was a disappointing day Fine Gael with both it candidates, Senator Dolan and Dympna Daly Finn were not elected.
