WATCH: Tánaiste opens new headquarters of Roscommon Civil Defence

The multi million headquarters of the Roscommon Civil Defence was officially opened this afternoon by Tánaiste Simon Harris. In glorious sunshine, the Fine Gael leader toured the facility on the Racecourse Road in Roscommon Town, meeting local volunteers and officials.
Chief Fire Officer John Keane welcomed everyone to the official opening of the €3m state-of-the art building, which will also be a climate controlled archive for the council.
Cathaoirleach Cllr Paschal Fitzmaurice said the building represented a new beginning for the local Civil Defence, and he acknowledged the role of former Civil Defence Officer Ray Dunne in making the project a reality.
He highlighted the role the Civil Defence played in the aftermath of Storm Eowyn and thanked the members for their role.
Council Chief Executive Shane Tiernan also praised the volunteers, stating that their wonderful work was a vocation.
He thanked the Tánaiste and Government for their commitment on Lough Funshinagh and the new N5.
The Tánaiste said he was delighted to be in Roscommon and commended the council for its can do attitude on this project and on Lough Funshinagh.
To mark the occasion the Tánaiste was presented with a framed ogham script make in Knockcroghery.
