Wins for young County Roscommon innovators

Young people taking part in the First Lego League Challenge regional tournament in Galway.
Two Foróige groups from County Roscommon won awards at the first-ever First Lego League Challenge regional tournament in Galway.
The event in Galway brought together 20 teams of young innovators from across the country.
After a day of competition, Foróige congratulated all the winners, which included - the Robot Design Award, Larry’s Legends - Foróige Roscommon Youth Service UBU, Boyle; Breakthrough Award, Le Rossies - Foróige Roscommon Youth Service UBU, Roscommon.
The competition, aimed at young people aged 11-16, encourages the development of critical STEM skills, including robotics, computer programming, teamwork, research, and communication. This initiative empowers young people to think like scientists and engineers while fostering collaboration and innovation in a fun and engaging way.
Speaking about the event, Megan Depinna, Foróige Youth Officer, said: “We are thrilled to have hosted Foróige’s first-ever First Lego League Challenge Regional Tournament. This event has not only showcased the incredible talent and creativity of young people but has also empowered them with essential skills for the future. The innovation, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities on display today prove that the future of STEM in Ireland is in great hands."
The FIRST LEGO League Challenge is part of a global movement that inspires young people to understand and shape the world they live in through STEM learning. At the heart of the initiative is a friendly contest that blends competition with cooperative learning, giving participants an exciting hands-on experience in coding, engineering, and teamwork.
