Work has commenced on a County Roscommon GAA Club’s new Prunty Pitch.
Éire Óg GAA Club has confirmed that its grounds at James Timothy Park, just outside Loughglynn, will be closed for the next 18 months to facilitate the works.
The project will be completed in four stages, with a target of early 2027 for completion of the project.
The first stage will see the playing area expanded to a full-sized sand-carpet pitch. This will involve lengthening and widening the pitch to meet full GAA dimensions, removing over 5,000 tonnes of topsoil, installing and renewing shores and drains, replacing the topsoil, installation of surface drainage system, laying the sand carpet, levelling the surface, and seeding.
The installation of a complete perimeter fence around the pitch, along with all necessary boundary fencing, will constitute Stage Two of the ambitious project.
Stage Three will incorporate a general tidy-up and reconfiguration of facilities. The stand will receive a facelift, with new services such as a tea/coffee outlet. The clubhouse will be painted, and other maintenance completed with the help of volunteer labour from club members.
The final stage will involve the construction of a 2.5-metre-wide walking track around the pitch, providing a safe and accessible route for walking and jogging.
This development marks a major step forward in improving the club’s facilities for players, supporters, and the wider community.
“When complete, we hope James Timothy Park will be a facility worthy of our club and of the late James Timothy, whose name it proudly bears,” said the club on social media.
