Works on the Cam to Coolagarry Road in South Roscommon were approved at a recent meeting of the Athlone Municipal District.
At the meeting, Cllr Emer Kelly tabled a motion calling for Roscommon County Council to review the condition of the road’s surface and provide the necessary repair works.
There were numerous reports of recurring potholes and broken surface on the road, she said, and these were causing damage to vehicles.
In response, the council said the Cam to Coolagarry Road comprised the L-7542-28 at the southern end, transiting to the L-7539-0, before linking with the L-2015 at the northern end.
A 1.1km stretch of the L-7539-0 at Curry was resurfaced in 2025, and a further 1.1 km section of the L-7539-0 was included in the 2026 Roads Programme.
“Significant pothole repair works have been undertaken on the road and necessary maintenance will continue to be undertaken as required,” the council said.
Cllr Kelly thanked the council for the response. “I think there might still be some missing sections of the roads,” she said, and she asked that those missing sections be included in next year’s roads programme.
The independent councillor thanked the council for its work on the potholes, saying she had received numerous calls about them.
