Young County Roscommon mother will be laid to rest on Monday following brave battle with illness

A young County Roscommon mother who passed away on Friday following a battle with illness will be laid to rest on Monday.
Nicola Murphy (nee Brennan) Gortlustia, Scramogue, and formerly Ahascaragh passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family in the kind and wonderful care of the staff of Roscommon Hospice on Friday.
In her mid-forties, Nicola was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease last year. She received the MND diagnosis just four years after she had successfully fought cancer, following chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and surgery.
Wife of former Fianna Fail councillor Joe Murphy, “she was so looking forward to this new chapter in her life as her two sons started university, she was in remission and finally back in the job that she loved for the past 18 years when she began to lose power in her right arm,” a fundraising campaign set up earlier this year heard.
Following her diagnosis Mr Murphy announced that he would not be seeking re-election.
Nicola, who has been described by friends “as the loveliest lady you could ever meet”, will be forever loved and sadly missed by her husband, Joe; sons, Conor and Óisin; parents, Anne and Sean; sisters, Valerie and Louise; dearest friend, Linda (Fallon); mother-in-law, Margaret, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, sisters in law, brothers in law, work colleagues at Veolia, relatives and many friends.
Reposing at her residence (F42 PX07) on Saturday and Sunday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. (with a break from 6pm to 6.15 p.m.). A one way system will operate with entry via L6162 both days.
Funeral leaving from her home on Monday morning to arrive at St Anne's Church Scramogue for Requiem Mass at 11 a.m. with burial afterwards in adjoining cemetery.
