Éire Óg backed up last weekend’s six-point triumph against St. Dominic’s with another eyecatching victory against last year’s beaten finalists, Clann na nGael, in the John Keane Kia sponsored senior ladies’ football championship on Sunday afternoon.

Ray Doory’s side were full value for their 3-9 to 0-9 victory in Johnstown, with the goals coming from Grace Flanagan, Alannah McGreal and Player of the Match Rebecca Finan — leaving the West Roscommon side in a great position to top their group if they can overcome St. Ciaran’s in their final group game.

St. Ciaran’s, who lost out to Clann na nGael by a point in the opening round, defeated St. Dominic’s by five points in the other group game, leaving themselves still in with a chance of topping the group.

In the other group, St. Brigid’s and Boyle recorded straightforward victories against St. Barry’s and Shannon Gaels respectively ahead of the final round of group games, which will take place on Thursday evening next to avoid a clash with Electric Picnic next weekend.

All eight teams in this year’s senior ladies’ football championship will reach the quarter-finals, with the team topping a group playing the fourth-placed team in the other group, and so on.
