Big win for Roscommon MMA fighter boosts UFC deal prospects
Roscommon MMA fighter Danni McCormack had a major win in Las Vegas on Friday.
A significant win for Castlecoote native Danni McCormack in the ‘Road to UFC’ tournament in Las Vegas has boosted her prospects of securing a once-in-a-lifetime contract with the world’s largest MMA promotion.
On Friday night at the Apex Arena in the US city, the former Invicta FC strawweight champion landed a hard-earned unanimous decision over Chinese opponent, Qihui Yan, over the course of three rounds.
The ‘Road to UFC’ tournament offers a pathway to mixed martial arts fighters to secure a lucrative multi-fight deal with Dana White’s UFC promotion.
The 34-year-old McCormack, a staple of Straight Blast Gym in Dublin, is widely regarded as the best strawweight fighter outside of the UFC. She is a two-time world strawweight champion with Invicta FC, another USA based MMA promotion.
Her Las Vegas performance also drew praise on social media from Conor McGregor.
