Outgoing Roscommon GAA Chairperson, Brian Carroll, has been described as one of the county’s “outstanding volunteers” ahead of annual Convention in the Abbey Hotel on Friday evening.
Mr Carroll, who will hand over the baton to Tom Murray, will step down as chairperson after five years at the helm and is expected to become Roscommon GAA’s delegate to Central Council.
Writing in his annual report, which will be presented to Convention, Roscommon GAA Secretary, Brian Mullin, said that Mr Carroll had been “a credit” to his native club Kilmore and County Roscommon.
“Brian has been one of the county’s outstanding volunteers and indeed chairpersons.
"I wish to take this opportunity to thank Brian for the contribution he has made and, no doubt, he will continue to represent Roscommon at national level with distinction, as he has done so well to date.
“Thank you Brian — you have been a credit to your club Kilmore and to Roscommon GAA,” he said.
Friday evening’s Convention will see Frank Egan (Ballinameen) replace Tom Murray as Roscommon GAA Vice-Chairperson. Fidelma Lennon (Clann na nGael) will take over from John O’Connor as PRO. Paula Clogher (Pádraig Pearses) will take over as Assistant Secretary/Fixtures Secretary. Brian Carroll will replace Pat Compton as Central Council delegate.
The only election to be contested will be the two Connacht Council seats where Seamus Nugent, John O’Connor, current Connacht Council PRO Hugh Lynn, and Enda Walsh will be vying for election.
Mr Mullin’s secretary's report will also outline that Roscommon GAA are striving to “put the final pieces of the jigsaw in place” for the Dermot Earley Centre of Excellence and that “no stone is being left unturned by the committees” to deliver the project.
It also hoped to build an Age Friendly access toilet at King and Moffatt Dr. Hyde Park, while the report also states that Roscommon GAA’s finances, after significant outlays in 2024, are looking “healthier” this year.
