Roscommon intermediate ladies’ football manager, Finbar Egan, believes that the quality in his squad means that his team should fear no one in Division Two of this year’s LGFA Division Two League.
After missed chances cost his side dearly in the narrow 0-7 to 0-6 loss to Monaghan a week earlier, Roscommon bounced back in style with a terrific 3-13 to 0-8 victory against Clare at Enfield on Sunday, thanks to a couple of goals from Aisling Hanly and another from Laura Mannion.
Roscommon face a huge test next Sunday when they travel to Tuam Stadium to take on beaten 2024 All-Ireland senior finalists, Galway, but Egan believes that the competition for places, and quality, within the squad means that the visitors should relish Sunday’s challenge.
“It is going to be a serious test. They were in the All-Ireland senior final last year but you are only going to get better by playing better teams and we have a very good team this year. I think we will give it a good shot on Sunday. Hopefully, we don’t go and admire Galway but instead go and play the way we can play and put them under pressure.
“Last week was the first time playing together. We are trying to implement a system, which takes a while to get used to. They are all very good footballers, so the more we play together the better we will get. We have more quality players on the bench and some very good girls who didn’t come on.
“Competition is a vital thing for us to move forward. Everybody on the panel understands that they can make the team. We have to learn to do without people and push on as best we can,” he said.
