St. Faithleach’s and Michael Glaveys were the bigger winners as the second round of the Hodson Bay Hotel Group Senior Football Championship came to a conclusion on Sunday afternoon.

St. Faithleach’s produced a highly impressive final quarter, outscoring their hosts by 0-12 to 0-1 from the 42nd minute onwards to leave Knockcroghery with a 1-20 to 1-11 win against St. Dominic’s.

On an afternoon when Faithleach’s scored 1-17 from play and 11 different players found the target, the Ballyleague-based side sit proudly on top of Group A with a game against Clann na nGael to come.

Tommy Hurley edged St. Dominic’s 0-3 to 0-2 in front early on before St. Faithleach’s scored 1-3 without reply — the goal coming from Diarmuid Murtagh.

Cian Kelly replied with a goal for St. Dominic’s, and a Karol Feerick two-pointer on the half-time whistle meant that the home side only trailed by 1-7 to 1-6 at the break.

A hat-trick of Cian Duggan scores saw Dominic’s outscore their opponents by 0-4 to 0-1 at the start of the second half, and by the 42nd minute they were 1-10 to 1-8 in front.

But that’s as good as it got for Tom Gately’s side as Faithleach’s took over around the middle and a two-pointer from Jack Murray handed the lead back to his side. This time, it was an advantage they wouldn’t relinquish.

A glut of scores followed, including a two-pointer from Ciaráin Murtagh, and although Dominic’s missed a couple of goal chances, the visitors won pulling up.

In Group B, five goals helped Michael Glaveys get the better of Elphin at Peadar Earley Memorial Park, Ballinlough.

A couple of goals from Cathal Heneghan and another by Tiernan Murphy handed the home side a 3-3 to 0-6 buffer at the break.

Despite Elphin kicking three points at the beginning of the second half, Glaveys’ hunt for goals continued and a fourth green flag for the home side courtesy of Dylan Ruane was followed by Heneghan completing his hat-trick as Iain Daly’s side ran out 5-8 to 0-9 winners.

Glaveys play St. Brigid’s in the final round of games to see who tops the group, while Elphin must dust themselves down for a meeting against Western Gaels.

In Group A of the Ward Bros Intermediate Football Championship, Tadhg Lyons’ hat-trick of goals was the catalyst for Fuerty’s 4-13 to 0-12 victory against Kilmore at Mulhern Park.

Lyons’ opening goal in the 24th minute helped his side ease their way into a 1-10 to 0-3 interval lead.

The lively forward added a second soon after the restart before Cian Murray got in on the act with his side’s third goal. There was still time for Lyons to grab his third goal of the contest as Fuerty ran out comprehensive winners.

Kilmore’s day went from bad to worse when they lost their talisman Paul Garvey, who kicked eight out of his side’s 12 points, to an ankle injury.
