Greene gives Fuerty the blues in intermediate football championship opener

Brian Greene (right), pictured here with Seán Groarke before last year's intermediate football championship final, scored Éire Óg's all-important goal against Fuerty on Sunday afternoon.
Brian Greene's second-half goal handed Éire Óg a narrow 1-10 to 0-12 victory against Fuerty at Mulhern Park in the big game of the day in the intermediate football championship.
The sides were deadlocked at 0-6 apiece at the break, with Roscommon forward Conor Cox kicking all his side's scores.
But Greene's 42nd goal was the defining score of the game as the beaten finalists for the last two years held on for a big win that leaves them warm favourites to top Group B.
In today's earlier game, a strong showing from Kilmore in the final quarter procured a 1-11 to 1-8 victory against St. Brigid's in Kiltoom.
Kilmore were 0-5 to 0-4 ahead at the break, with all nine points coming from play in damp conditions, but Gearoid Cunniffe's goal 30 seconds after the restart propelled the home side into the ascendency.
They were 1-7 to 0-6 ahead approaching the three-quarter stage, but Caelen Bracken's goal hauled Kilmore back into contention.
From their until the end, Kilmore held their nerve, although Brigid's were extremely unhappy with a number of refereeing decisions that went against them.
Oisín Boland and Paul Garvey kicked five out of the game's last six frees between them as Kilmore held on for a three-point win.
In the Junior A Football Championship, the big result of the day was Boyle's shock 1-7 to 0-9 victory against Kilglass Gaels.
Boyle full-back, Mick Hanmore, grabbed the all-important goal in the first half.
There were also wins for St. Barry's, Strokestown, Clann na nGael, Ballinameen and St. Aidan's over the weekend.
