Clann na nGael GAA Club is mourning the death of its honorary club president, Paddy Berrigan, Clonark, who gave decades of service to the club.

Mr Berrigan passed away peacefully in the tender care of the staff of St. Brendan’s Nursing Home, Ballinasloe, on February 26th.

He served as a senior team selector, and looked after the second team for a few years, along with the late Pakie Harney.

He also served as an U-16 selector with Roscommon in the 1980s and provided transport to training and matches for young players from Clann na nGael to represent their county.

One of four brothers, he is predeceased by Michael, Tommy and Willie. Both Tommy and Willie played for Clann.

“He was an employee of Midland Oil in Athlone in his working days and also had a great love and knowledge of horses and racing.

“A true genuine gentleman, Paddy will be missed by all who knew him,” said Clann na nGael in a statement on social media.

Predeceased by his parents Thomas and Delia, and brothers, Michael, Tommy and Willie, the late Paddy Berrigan’s passing is deeply regretted by his cousin Adrian Ward, his wife Siobhan and their family, David, Leanne and Amy, relatives, neighbours and his many close friends, whose friendship meant so much to him over the years.

The late Paddy Berrigan will repose at Clann na nGael Clubhouse, Johnstown (N37 DX94), on Sunday, March 1st, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.. Mass of the Resurrection on Monday in St. Brigid’s Church, Drum, at 11 a.m., followed by burial in Drum Cemetery.
