The son of a County Roscommon native helped Westmeath to Division Three League glory on Saturday evening.

Daniel Scahill lined out at corner-back for Dessie Dolan’s side as they saw off Down on a scoreline of 2-10 to 0-13 in Croke Park.

Daniel is the son of David Scahill who won two county senior football championship titles with Castlerea St. Kevin’s 2003 and 2008.

Another son, Will, is part of this year’s Westmeath minor football panel.

Both Daniel and Will play their club football with Shandonagh GAA Club, while David has togged out of the Roscommon Masters football team in recent years.
