The Bridgestone Women’s Order of Merit lead has changed hands once again as Olivia Costello has moved into top spot following her runner-up finish at the East of Ireland Women’s Amateur Open Championship at Woodbrook.

The Roscommon golfer narrowly missed out on claiming the inaugural East of Ireland title after a thrilling final day in Wicklow, where Oughterard’s Kate Dillon emerged victorious, making a birdie on the second hole of their playoff.

The Flogas Irish Girls’ Amateur Open Champion collected 250 points for her second-place finish, moving onto 720 points overall. Costello now holds a slender 10-point advantage over Aideen Walsh (Lahinch), while West of Ireland Women’s Amateur Open Champion Ella Cantwell (Esker Hills) sits just 17 points off the lead in third.

Shannon Burke rounds out a tight top four after her third-place finish at Woodbrook earned her a further 200 points. The Ballinrobe golfer now sits fourth in the standings, just 62 points behind Costello in a competitive race at the top of the rankings.

Attention now turns to the final of the four inaugural regional women’s championships, with the North of Ireland Women’s Amateur Open Championship set to tee up at Lough Erne from 28-29 June.
