Golf notes: Great turnout at inter-county golf classic

LADIES’ RESULTS: 18-hole club stableford on Saturday, September 23, Sunday, September 24 and Monday, September 25 — 1st, Catherine Fitzgerald (17), 36 pts; 2nd, Angela Veldon (27), 35 pts.

MEN’S FIXTURES: The King Harmon qualifying competitions will take place for the men over the coming weekends.
16 people will qualify for the matchplay rounds afterwards. The course is not available to the men on Saturday, October 7, as Boyle will be hosting the Roscommon Cup for the ladies.
The men’s Thursday competitions have concluded and will recommence next April.

RESULTS: The Committee Cup took place on the weekend of September 23-24 as an 18-hole stroke play.
It was the final event of the series in the Golfer of the Year competitions. Congratulations to two men in particular, Dermot Hayden who was this year’s Committee Cup winner, which marked his first significant win in the club, and Gabriel Lavin who claimed the title of Golfer of the Year, having topped the order of merit.
COMMITTEE CUP: 1st, Dermot Hayden, 36 points; 2nd, Pat Conroy, 35 points; 3rd, Michael McHale, 35 points.
MEN’S CAPTAIN’S OUTING: Liam Whyte has organised the annual captain’s outing for the men for the weekend of November 11-12.
Saturday’s golf will take place in Esker Hills Golf Club.
The golf on Sunday will take place in Mount Temple Golf Club.
There will be food in the clubhouses on both days.
Players are welcome to play in one or both of the competitions. There will be prizes for both days. For those wishing to stay over, accommodation is the individual’s responsibility. Most bookings to date have been for the Tullamore Court Hotel. For those wishing to go, please book your slot with Lorcan Egan by WhatsApp or put your name on the noticeboard in the clubhouse.
SENIORS: Last Thursday’s golf was cancelled due to the poor weather conditions.
The Captain’s Prize is now re-scheduled for Thursday, October 12. The outing to Belmullet took place on Monday and Tuesday last. It was a Texas Scramble stableford.
On Monday, the overall winning team had 46 points.
Members included John O’Mahony, Michael Delorey, Seamus Sheeran, and Dermot Conlon. Albert Hogg, Pascal McGuire, and Anthony Noone were second with 39 points.
Chris Lowe, P.J. Sharkey, and Robbie Donaldson were third with 38 points.
The winning team on Tuesday were John O’Mahony, Paddy Dillon, and Eamonn Costello with a score of 51 points. Tommy Mulvey, Pascal McGuire, Dermot Monaghan, and Dermot Conlon were second with 46 points. Chris Lowe, Anthony Noone, PJ Sharkey and Robbie Donaldson were third with 45 points.
Golf takes place as usual next Thursday.
LOTTO: The jackpot stands at €1,125. Last week’s weekly winner of €30 was Helen Lavin. Anyone who would like to join the lotto should contact Ann Cox or Sheila Carney.

OLIVIA COSTELLO: Good luck to Olivia Costello and the rest of the Irish U-16 girls’ team against England at Carton House, Co Kildare, on October 7-8. The contest will include foursomes, fourballs and singles matches over the two days of play.
