A horse with strong South Roscommon connections almost secured a hat-trick of famous victories at the Cheltenham Festival this afternoon.
Flooring Porter, owned by Ned Hogarty, Kerrill Craven, Alan and Tommy Sweeney from Pádraig Pearses country, finished second behind hot favourite, Teahupoo, in the Stayers Hurdle.
The horse, which was purchased for only €5,000 in 2018, had won the race twice in successive years in 2021 and 2022.
In 2022, Flooring Porter joined the likes of fellow Roscommon horse Montelado, Tiger Roll and Dawn Run in winning two races at the famed mecca of National Hunt racing.
Flooring Porter, who was priced at 9/1, led the this afternoon’s race as they tackled the famous Cheltenham Hill before being caught by Teahupoo.
