Imagine meeting your idol, who just happens to share your name.

That's the thrill and excitement that young 12-year-old Jimmy Whyte from Ballykeeran, Athlone, experienced on Friday evening as he met his sporting idol, snooker legend Jimmy White, at a pool exhibition in The Coachman's Inn.

The Whirlwind returned to the county where he played a number of local players at the popular Roscommon Town venue.

White famously reached six World Snooker Championship finals during his career, but finished runner-up on each occasion.

However, his popularity as one of the game's most instantly recognisable figures hasn't waned over the years.

White is no stranger to County Roscommon, having played in a number of exhibitions around the county.
