O'Rourke shines again to win third European boxing gold medal

Roscommon boxer Aoife O’Rourke continued her rich vein of form by securing the middleweight gold medal this evening at the European Elite Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.

O’Rourke defeated a tough opponent in Anastasia Shamonova from Russia in the 75kg final following a split decision.

It was another performance full of skills and guts from the Tokyo Olympian and Paris-qualified boxer, who has been on an impressive run of victories.

It includes the Castlerea boxer's gold medal achievement back in February at the Stradja tournament in Bulgaria.

The 26-year-old’s third successive European boxing title sets her up in good stead as she continues her preparations for the Paris Olympics this summer.
