Roscommon woman announces AFLW retirement
Roscommon’s Joanne Cregg has announced her retirement from the AFLW.
Roscommon’s Joanne Cregg has announced her retirement from the AFLW.
Cregg hangs up the boots having played 16 games across her three seasons for the Fremantle Dockers.
The defender was selected at pick 21 in the 2023 AFLW Supplementary Draft and debuted in Round 1 of the 2023 NAB AFLW Season.
Cregg’s career-best performance was against Essendon in Round 4 in 2023, amassing 15 disposals and four marks.
Before being selected for Fremantle as a first year player, the Irish recruit initially moved to Perth in early 2022 to further her career and is a paediatric doctor working at Perth Children’s Hospital.
In a statement Fremantle Head of AFLW Claire Heffernan thanked Cregg for her contribution to the team.
““Jo has been a valued addition to our group since joining the Club,” Heffernan said.
“She’s a natural competitor who’s given her all every time she’s pulled on the jumper.
“Both Amy (Mulholland) and Jo were members of our Irish recruits, and both have been wonderful role models for the younger players in our squad.”
