Two County Roscommon women claimed medals at the European Masters Athletics Championships in Poland this week.

Michelle Lannon from Boyle — an athlete with Carrick-on-Shannon AC — finished fifth in the W50 category in the women's cross country competition, helping Ireland to the bronze medal in the team category. It was a busy few days for Michelle as she also finished sixth in the indoor 3,000 metres on Sunday last.

Meanwhile, Ann Wynne, also from Boyle and a member of Carrick-on-Shannon AC, showed real courage in finishing third in the W55 category in the women’s 800 metres, picking up a thoroughly deserved bronze medal in a time of 2.36.83.
