Feast of drama this month at The Dock
Carrick-on-Shannon man Darragh Gilhooly will star in 'Yellowing'.
This April offers audiences in the opportunity to experience both homegrown local theatre, and a major work from one of Ireland’s most acclaimed theatre-makers, at The Dock Arts Centre in Carrick-on-Shannon.
Following a series of sold-out performances of ‘The Anatomy of Burke’ and ‘Hare’ in 2025, Naming Cows Theatre Company returns to The Dock to present ‘Yellowing’, a fast paced and intimate two hander inspired by real family history.
Spanning from 1952 to 2015, ‘Yellowing’ traces the emotionally layered story of Aodren and Nolwen as they navigate young love, war, separation, and the haunting persistence of memory.
One partner struggles with dementia, the other with the imprint of conflict — together rediscovering their early twenties through fractured recollection.
The production stars Carrick-on-Shannon man Darragh Gilhooly — whose previous film and television credits include Acorn’s ‘Harry Wild’ as Matt Gaffey and AMCs ‘Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale’ as Jake Bolt — and Willow Brodie Hayes, a multidisciplinary actor, artist, and a recent graduate from the Gaiety School of Acting.
The Dock also welcomes ‘KING’, the remarkable fifth collaboration between Fishamble and award winning performer and writer Pat Kinevane.
Directed by Jim Culleton, ‘KING’ tells the story of Luther, a man from Cork named in honour of his grandmother’s hero, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Luther rarely leaves his apartment except for essential errands — and to perform as an Elvis impersonator. Through Luther’s world, the play explores themes of prejudice, privilege, loneliness, and resilience.
‘Yellowing’ by Naming Cows Theatre Company will be staged on Friday and Saturday, April 17th and 18 April at 8 p.m. at The Dock Arts. ‘KING’ by Fishamble Theatre Company Will be staged on Friday, April 24th April at 8 p.m..
