ATHLEAGUE

SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP: The senior camogie team edged out Roscommon Gaels, 2-13 to 2-10, in their first game in this year’s championship. They play St. Dominic’s on Saturday evening at 7 p.m. (venue to be confirmed).

UNDERAGE NEWS: The club hosted Boyle and Roscommon Gaels in an U-8 Blitz on Wednesday last. The final blitz of the season takes place on Saturday, September 6th, in Lisnamult at 11 a.m.. The U-16 team play Pádraig Pearses in Creggs on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.. Abby Keane and Leah Connolly were members of the Roscommon U-15 team that reached the final of the National Blitz Day in Raharney on Saturday last. They were defeated by Kerry in the final.

BALLINAMEEN

JUNIOR FOOTBALLERS: Best of luck to the Benetti Menswear sponsored junior football team who take on Kilglass Gaels in the third round of the Junior A championship on Sunday. The winner will top the group.

UNDERAGE NEWS: The Elphin/Ballinameen U-14 team were defeated by Clann na nGael in the championship last week. The U-16 team recorded a good win over St. Ciaran’s. Neither team are in action this week. The minor team play St. Ciaran's on Tuesday (this evening) in the Division Two championship in Fuerty at 7 p.m..

BOYLE

LOTTO: There were three match winners in the lotto draw — Bridie Ennis, Martin Gaffney, and Enda and Suzie Gaffney. The jackpot stands at €6,900. LGFA: The U-14 girls will meet Kilmore/Kilglass in the championship quarter-final on August 28th in the College Field at 6.45 p.m.. Well done to the U-19 ladies’ team who defeated Michael Glaveys by 4-11 to 4-8 in a nailbiting semi-final. The senior ladies enjoyed a decisive win against Shannon Gaels in the championship (see Page 2 for LGFA round-up).

CASTLEREA ST. KEVIN’S

GAMES: The senior footballers play Roscommon Gaels in Enfield on Saturday evening at 6.30 p.m.. The minor footballers play Roscommon Gaels on Tuesday evening in O’Rourke Park at 7 p.m.. Castlerea play Oran/St. Croan’s in the U-14 championship on Thursday in Rockfield at 7 p.m.. Best of luck to the teams and their managements. Well done to the minor footballers who saw off Clann na nGael by 2-20 to 2-17 in a mighty game of football on Tuesday last. The club also congratulates its youthful and experienced Junior B football team that beat Shannon Gaels in Croghan on Saturday evening.

MASS: A Mass of healing and thanksgiving has been organised for St. Kevin’s members and their families in the clubhouse on Thursday, August 28th, at 8 p.m.. Refreshments will be served afterwards.

LGFA: Well done to the junior ladies’ football team and management who recorded a great 4-11 to 0-9 win against Oran on Sunday morning.

ELPHIN

ROUNDERS: The club wishes its junior ladies’ rounders team the best of luck in Sunday’s All-Ireland final at the Meath Centre of Excellence at 2 p.m..

UNDERAGE NEWS: Thank you to Boyle GAA Club who hosted the U-8 team during the week and to Shannon Gaels who hosed the U-10 team on Saturday. Well done to the U-12 team who defeated Western Gaels in the championship. Well done to the U-16 team who defeated St Ciaran’s. Hard luck to the U-14s who were defeated by Clann na nGael. GET WELL SOON: The club would like to wish Tadgh Morris a speedy recovery from the injury he sustained in a recent minor match. The senior footballers take on Western Gaels in their final group game of this year’s championship in Kilbride on Friday evening at 8 p.m..

KILBRIDE

MARK DOWD: Kilbride GAA Club would like to extend its heartfelt congratulations to Mark Dowd on his appointment as Roscommon senior football manager. While Kilbride proudly acknowledges Mark’s roots in Strokestown, the club has gladly adopted him as one of its own. His contribution and presence have made a significant contribution to the club. His journey through the ranks in Roscommon football is a testament to his dedication and passion for the game, and Kilbride couldn’t be prouder to see him take on this prestigious role.

UNDERAGE NEWS: The U-12 footballers showed tenacity and teamwork to defeat Clann na nGael 26-24. In their next game, a dominant second-half performance resulted in a 24-17 win against St. Brigid’s. The U-14 footballers, missing several key players, were narrowly defeated by Roscommon Gaels. Senan Lohan’s penalty saw Kilbride trail by 2-6 to 1-3 at the break. Goals from Shea Molloy and Harry Trimble restored parity but Roscommon Gaels grabbed a late point to prevail. The team play Kilglass/St. Barry’s on Tuesday in Kilbride at 6.30 p.m.. The U-16 footballers fell to a narrow 6-10 to 5-12 defeat against Oran/St. Croan’s on Sunday. Mark Naughton was in sensational form, contributing multiple goals and points. He was ably supported by Tomás Lohan, Luke Hayes, Jack Lally, and Dara Kelleher.

LGFA NEWS: The intermediate footballers shared the spoils with Michael Glaveys in the championship on Sunday last (see round-up, page 2). The junior footballers delivered a statement 6-6 to 1-8 victory against St. Dominic’s. From start to finish, Kilbride showcased their depth, dynamism, and determination in a match that featured standout individual brilliance and collective grit. Sinead Clabby netted two goals in the first half, and she completed her hat-trick, and added a fourth goal, in the second half. Goalkeeper Sandra Shanagher also made a crucial save from a penalty. The club is very proud of mothers and daughters, Ann Marie and Ruth Dennigan, and Sandra and Aisling Shanagher, who lined out for Kilbride over the weekend.

FAMILY DAY: The club’s annual family day was a great success. This year’s winners of the John Hunt Memorial Cup following the Tug of War competition were the Kilmore team. MASTERS: Well done to Anthony Carroll, Dermot Foley and the Roscommon Masters team who have qualified for the All-Ireland Plate final against Armagh following their win against Galway last weekend.

NORTHERN GAELS

UPDATE: Well done to the U-7 footballers who lined out against Cortoon Shamrocks on Sunday evening. The U-12 footballers defeated Kilkerrin/Clonberne by 2-13 to 1-2 in Williamstown. The U-17 footballers built up a 0-9 to 0-4 lead against Cortoon Shamrocks in their championship game to prevail by 3-12 to 0-9 in Williamstown on Sunday morning. Best of luck to the U-14 footballers who face Salthill/Knocknacarra in their Group 6 county final in Loughgeorge on Friday evening at 7 p.m.. The U-16 footballers are away to Kilconly on Tuesday at 7 p.m..

ANNIVERSARY: Northern Gaels would like to congratulate Glenamaddy/Williamstown LGFA on their 25th anniversary.

APPRECIATION: Coaches and committee members were presented with Northern Gaels jackets, tops and hats in recognition of all the hard work they do in giving up their free time to coach and train players alongside all the behind-the-scenes work. ORAN

U-10 BOYS: The Oran/St. Croan’s U-10 boys took part in the Fingallians tournament in Dublin on Saturday. It was a superbly organised event. The club wishes to thank Karol Keane, Ballymoe, in particular, for organising it — the kids had a fantastic time.

U-14 BOYS: Well done to the Oran/St. Croan’s U-14 boys’ footballers who recorded a mighty win away to Pádraig Pearses in Woodmount on Thursday. The team produced a superb performance to prevail by 7-6 to 2-12. Well done to the team and management.

PITCH OPENING: The official opening of the upgraded club grounds in Rockfield will take place on September 20th. Guest of Honour will be the club’s great patron, Seán Mulryan. The club will host an exhibition of underage football, hurling and camogie.

CONDOLENCES: The club would like to express its deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the late Fr Seamus O'Neill, who was the Curate in Ballinaheglish Church for a time and contributed to the Ballinaheglish book. May he Rest In Peace.

PÁDRAIG PEARSES

MEETING: Pádraig Pearses GAA Club is holding a very important club meeting on Sunday, August 31st, in the clubhouse at 6 p.m.. The meeting will discuss plans for the club’s new five-year strategy document. This club plan will encompass all areas of the club from coaching and games, to communication and infrastructure. Input is required from members and supporters of the club in order to make the plan a success. The club has invited local public representatives, community councils, local groups who avail of club facilities, local schools, as well as everyone in the club community to come along and share their views.

COFFEE MORNING: A coffee morning fundraiser for Palestine in conjunction with Glór na nGael to take place on Saturday, August 30th, at 10 a.m.. Support for this worthy cause would be appereciated. Funds raised go to the Palestine Red Cresent Society.

JUNIIOR B FOOTBALLERS: The Killeen's of Togher sponsored Junior B team were edged out by Clann na nGael in Johnstown on Saturday evening. It was a cracking game football, played in the correct spirit, with plenty of skill in evidence. With six minutes left, the margin was down to one point thanks to a magnificent two-pointer from Robbie Brooks and an equally classy goal from Darragh Finn. The evergreen Davy Grehan and Gary Canavan scored some excellent points but Pearses just couldn’t manufacture the equaliser. They play Elphin in their next game on Friday, September 12th, in Woodmount at 8 p.m.. DILLON QUIRKE FOUNDATION: The club would like to extend its deepest gratitude to the Dillon Quirke Foundation for visiting Croghan Community Centre last Thursday. LGFA TEAMS: Well done to the U-19 ladies’ football team who made a great comeback, turning around a 12-point deficit, to defeat Clann na nGael in their Division One semi-final. The girls will face St. Dominic’s in the final. The intermediate ladies enjoyed a facile victory against Western Gaels in Tarmonbarry on Sunday morning. They are away to St. Croan’s on September 7th.

OTHERS NEWS: The intermediate men’s football team meet St. Michael’s in Elphin on Saturday evening at 6 p.m.. The U-14, U-16 and U-18 teams are navigating their way through their respective round robin games.

RESULTS: Well done to the U-12 girls who played Roscommon Gaels and Oran during the week. The girls showed great skill and are improving every week. Congratulations to the junior ladies’ footballers and management team of David Rooney, Shane Phillips and Darragh Walsh on their 3-10 to 3-9 win over Four Roads on Sunday morning. The U-16 girls meet Kilglass/Kilmore on August 26th in Kilmore at 7 p.m.. The U-14 boys play Roscommon Gaels in Ballyleague on August 26th at 7 p.m.. On Thursday, the U-14 girls are at home to Western Gaels in Ballyleague.

1965 REUNION: Many thanks to all those who attended the first round of the championship against Pádraig Pearses where the club honoured its winning senior championship team from 1965. It was fantastic to see so many of the past players and their families join the club in the celebrations. The club looks at these players with pride and respect, and it was fantastic to see generations of past and present mix together in the clubhouse that evening. Thanks to Brendan Reynolds and PNW Pipelayers for the sponsorship of new jerseys, which include a star on the back to recognise the 1965 team from 60 years ago.

MOO POO DRAW: The club’s Moo Poo draw takes place at the club grounds on Saturday, August 30th, at 7 p.m. where someone will win €1,000. Tickets are available from executive members, players or on Klubfunder.

ST. MICHAEL’S

GAMES: The Junior B footballers, sponsored by Joe Simon Home, Garden and Build, got their championship campaign off to a winning start with a 1-15 to 0-9 victory over Kilmore in Ardcarne Park on Saturday. They are away to Tulsk in their next game on Saturday, September 13th. The intermediate footballers travel to Elphin to play St. Barry’s in their final group game of this year’s championship on Saturday next at 6 p.m..

UNDERAGE NEWS: The Division One and Four minor footballers were defeated by Pádraig Pearses in Woodmount. Despite scoring eight goals, the U-14 Division Two footballers were defeated by Castlerea St. Kevin’s. The U-16 boys were beaten by Clann na nGael, 2-13 to 7-7, in Ardcarne Park on Friday evening. The minor footballers play Kilmore/Shannon Gaels on Tuesday, August 26th, in Ballyfarnon at 7 p.m.. The U-14 Division Four play the same opposition in Ardcarne Park at the same time. LGFA NEWS: The junior ladies’ footballers defeated Shannon Gaels by 2-8 to 0-5 in Croghan on Friday evening. The play St. Dominic’s in a repeat of last year’s county final in Knockcroghery on Thursday, August 28th. The U-19 ladies were defeated by St. Croan’s, 3-10 to 0-9, in their semi-final. The U-14 girls’ Division Two team were defeated by St. Brigid’s, 7-7 to 2-7, in Kiltoom on Tuesday evening. The girls missed out on the A semi-finals on scoring difference by just a single point.

SYMPATHY: The club extends its deepest sympathy to the Keaney family, Corrigeenroe, on the passing of Margaret Keaney.

ST. RONAN’S

CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE: On Sunday next, the Junior A team play St. Joseph’s in the final round robin game in the Junior A championship. The game is fixed for Croghan on Sunday at 12.30 p.m..

ANTHONY BOSQUETTE, RIP: Everyone involved in Strokestown GAA was saddened by the recent passing of Anthony Bosquette. The club extends its deepest sympathy to the Bosquette family and asks everyone to keep them in their thoughts at this time.

5 PEAKS CHALLENGE: On Saturday, the club and community came together for an unforgettable day as the Strokestown GAA 5 Peaks Challenge was completed. The effort, energy, and community spirit on display were incredible. The club wishes to sincerely thank everyone who took part and supported it in raising vital funds. A special mention to club chairperson, Damian Donlon, and the organising committee for putting together such a fantastic event.
