Ballintubber Tidy Towns invites new and returning volunteers to join together for the annual spring clean on Saturday, April 18th, from 10 a.m., meeting in the church car park. Weekly Tidy Towns gatherings will be on Mondays at 7 p.m.. If you cannot join us at these times but would still like to get involved, get in touch with Mike 086 254 9815 or Ruth 086 1988036. The Roscommon Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) will be holding its annual church gate collection at the following churches this weekend: St. Bride's Church, Ballintubber on Sunday, April 19th; St. Patrick's Church, Ballinaheglish on Sunday, April 19th Roscommon SPCA is run by a team of dedicated volunteers with all money donated going directly towards animal welfare in the county.
Ballinaheglish Tidy Towns & Village Enhancement Group has announced that the Roscommon Men’s Choir alongside Michael Murray and PJ Shanagher are coming to Ballinaheglish Community Centre on Friday, April 24th at 8 p.m.. The MC on the night will be Paddy Joe Burke. The proceeds from this event will contribute towards the development of the Bog Walk at Runnamoat. The AGM of Glinsk Lgfa was held recently. Having adopted the various reports the following officers were elected for 2026: chairperson, Joe Devaney; vice-chairperson, Morris Mulhearn; secretary, Cathy Ogilvie; treasurer, Mairead Brennan; assistant treasurer, Damien Brennan; children’s officer, Joanne Kerrane; PRO, Laurence Cunningham.
The death took place on March 13th at Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe of Mr Tom Raftery, Ballybride, Roscommon and formerly of Moate, Creggs. He was predeceased by his wife, Anne, parents, Malachy and Kate, siblings, Nonie and Johnny and is survived by his sons, Paul and Aidan; sisters, Bridie and Kathleen; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, neighbours and friends. Following Mass of the Resurrection at the Sacred Heart Church, Roscommon on Monday, March16th the burial took place in St.Coman's Cemetery.
Fr. Michael Joyce and Mrs Celia Dowd, Glinsk have been bereaved by the death of their sister, Mrs Bridget (Bea) McDermott, Terenure, Dublin. Her death took place on March 27th in St. James Hospital, Dublin. She was predeceased by her husband, Stephen, parents, Patrick and Mary, brothers, Tom, Patrick, William, and John, and sister Margaret Moylette. She will be greatly missed by her children, Mary, Patrick, Paula, Noel, Siobhan and Stephen; sons-in-law, Pat and Martin; daughters-in-law, Patti, Laura and Barbara and siblings, Mary, Celia, Ann, Eileen Kay, Fr. Michael, Vincent and Stephen. She is also mourned by her grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. The funeral Mass took place at St.Paul's Church, Mount Argus and was followed by burial in Mount Jerome Cemetery.
Sympathy is extended to Dympna Hurley, Glinsk who has been bereaved by the death of her brother, Francis Collins, Ballybeg, Strokestown. The deceased passed on April 5th in University Hospital, Galway following a short illness. The funeral Mass took place at St.Mary's Church, Carniska and was followed by burial in Strokestown Cemetery.
The peaceful death took place on Monday, April 6th at Roscommon Hospice of Mr Anthony Kelly, Keelogues, Creggs. News of his passing was received with great sadness as he was a well-liked and popular member of the community. He took part in farming all his life and had a keen interest in cattle in particular. He attended the local marts on a regular basis and kept up to date with modern trends by reading the Farmers Journal weekly. Predeceased by his parents, Michael and Ellen, brother, Paddy, infant brother, Micheal, sister Kathleen and brother- in- law Chris Noone, he will be greatly missed by his brothers, John and Martin, sisters-in-law, Kathleen and Kitsy, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends. His remains reposed at Divilly's Funeral Home, Glenamaddy on Wednesday, April 8th before removal to St. Michael's Church Glinsk. Following Mass of the Resurrection at St. Michael's Church on Thursday, April 9th the burial took place in Ballinakill Cemetery.
The peaceful death occurred on Sunday April 5th at his residence of Mr Tom Clarke, Ussey, Glinsk. Tom was predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Margaret Clarke and baby daughter Noreen and he will be sadly missed by his sons, Padraic and Roger; daughter, Mary; wife, Dell; son-in-law, Tom; grandchildren, Lucy and Gary; extended family members, neighbours and friends. His remains reposed at Flanagan's Funeral Home, Ballymoe on Tuesday, April 7th before removal to St. Michael's Church, Glinsk. Following Mass of the Resurrection at St. Michael's Church on Wednesday, April 8th the burial took place in Kilcolumb Cemetery.
A reminder that the new Glinsk GAA 50/50 draw takes place on Saturday April 18th in the Glencastle Lounge. There will be one jackpot winner per draw, which will be held on a bi-weekly basis.
