THE LATE CELIA CONNOLLY

The death occurred peacefully on Friday, August 1st, surrounded by her loving family in the excellent care of the staff at Roscommon Hospice, of Mrs. Celia Connolly (née Quine), of Church Hill, Castlerea, and formerly of Ardagh, Glinsk, Co. Galway. Predeceased by her parents James and Margaret, siblings Michael, Tommy, Mary, John and Jim. Deceased was a very kind, caring and gentle person who always had time for people both young and old and loved to have the chat with them. She was a wonderful and most obliging neighbour. Indeed, she always made people that frequented her home most welcome with a lovely cup of tea, cake and scones. The kettle was always on the boil. The many tributes paid to her on RIP.ie paid to her were well deserved. She had a very happy 63 years of marriage with the love of her life, her husband Harry, they were very loyal and they went everywhere together. She loved her family and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved when they would come to visit for the family gatherings. Gifts brought to the altar were a candle with a picture of a robin on it as a gift of thanks, this was a gift given to her by her granddaughter Lisa. Celia loved the robin. A statue of Our Lady as a symbol of Celia’s devotion to Our Lady of Knock, this gift was given to her by her granddaughter Lisa from her first school tour to Knock Shrine. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and she will be sadly missed by her husband Harry, children, Annmarie (Hickey, Galway), Gerry (Sligo), Deirdre (Cunnane, Malahide) and Harriet (Sandyford), grandchildren Lisa, Lauren, Aoife, Juliette, Ronan and Rowan, great-grandchildren Grace and Tom, daughter-in-law Mary, sons-in-law Paul and Liam, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Her remains were removed from her home on Tuesday morning to St. Patrick’s Church, Castlerea and following Mass of the Resurrection celebrated by Fr. John McManus with co-celebrant Canon Seamus Hester (UK), a friend of the family, burial took place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Castlerea. Before the final blessing, her son Gerry read the Communion reflection, and her daughter Deirdre gave the eulogy on Celia’s life. The ceremony was enhanced by the Castlerea Church Choir, under their Director Claire Kelly with organist Ena Conroy. May her gentle soul rest in peace.
