FRC BOOK CLUB 

Boyle FRC book club is a social group for readers in the community. The club meets on the last Monday of the month at 7 p.m. (February 24th, March 31st, April 28th, May 26th and June 30th) to discuss that month’s chosen book. New members always welcome. ACTIVE RETIREMENT GROUP 

The Boyle Active Retirement group meets every Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Boyle Family Resource Centre. This is a very active group with different activities.

MEMORY CAFÉ MEETING 

Roscommon Dementia Alliance hosts a monthly café at Lough Key Forest Park, Boyle to help support people affected by dementia, their families and carers. This month's event takes place on Wednesday, February 19th, from 2 - 4 p.m. and will include music, song, advice and a chat. DROP IN 

Boyle Family Resource Centre is open to drop in for a cuppa, chat and charge. It’s as important to recharge your personal battery as it is your phone. Open from 9 a.m. so if you are without power the team can help with the following: charging, WiFi, heat, kitchen and cooking facilities, hot water, drinking water, food packages, comfortable spaces, oasis sensory space. ODD ANTIQUE SHOP 

The Odd Antique Shop, Main Street, Boyle (opposite Bank Of Ireland) is open Fridays and Saturdays from 10.30 a.m.- 5.30 p.m.. Lots of lovely and unusual antique, collectible and vintage items, including jewellery, rugs, ceramics, furniture, art, oil lamps and much more.

EVENING OF PRAYER AND HEALING 

An evening of prayer and healing with Eddie Stones, confessions, Adoration and Holy Mass will be held in St. Joseph’s Church, Boyle, on Tuesday, February 18th at 7 p.m. All welcome.

CLOTHES COLLECTION 

Drumboylan NS is hosting a clothes collection as a fundraiser for the school on Thursday, March 27th. If you have any unwanted clothes/shoes/bags/belts, please support the collection by donating. Items that are not accepted are duvets, blankets, bedding and pillows. Bags can be dropped off during school hours or on the morning of the collection before 10 a.m.. Thank you for your support.

CLOONFAD 

HELENA CAPTAINS ROSCOMMON 

Congratulations to Helena Cummins who captained Roscommon ladies football team in their league encounter with Galway on Sunday last in Tuam Stadium. Despite losing to a strong Galway team, it was a good performance by the Rossies.

CLOONFAD UTD 

Both teams had tough away assignments over the weekend in the Roscommon Cup. The A team lost two nil to St John’s Athletic while the B team conceded seven to the very strong Boyle Celtic. Both teams now go into the shield competition.

AWARDS NIGHT 

Michael Glavey’s awards night will take place in the Three Counties on Saturday, February 22nd commencing at 8 p.m.. Tickets will go on sale on February 13th.

CONNACHT CHAMPIONS 

Well done to Ballyhaunis Community school lgfa junior team who defeated Glenamaddy Secondary school to win the Connacht PPS Junior C title recently. Local coach Caroline Falls was part of the management and there were brilliant performances from local players, Emma McGuire, Erin Hibbitt, Aoife Burke, Ruby Coggins, Vivienne Gannon, Rachel Fleming and Rachel Lawless.

GLINSK/CREGGS 

LATE FR.DONAL MORRIS 

The death occurred on January 16thof Fr. Donal Morris, PP Kilbegnet and Glinsk. Originally from Dublin he grew up in Ballinaheglish. He studied at CBS Roscommon and following his Leaving Cert he undertook a pre-seminary formation year at Donamon. He then entered St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth and he was ordained to the priesthood on June 4th 1995. He commenced his priestly duties in Kilmurry after which he served as chaplain at Castlerea prison for seven years. He later served in Knockcroghery, Boyle and Loughglynn before being assigned to Kilbegnet and Glinsk in 2020. Fr. Donal is deeply mourned by his parents, Eamon and Kathleen; brother, Edward; sisters, Carol, Catriona and Audrey and their spouses, Michelle, Ronan, Denis, and Enda; his nieces, Rachel, Roisin, Aoife, Cora, and Aoibhinn; nephews, Daniel, Ruairi, Tommy, Fionn and Liam; uncles, aunts, cousins, relatives and friends. His remains reposed at Smyth’s Funeral Home, Roscommon on Sunday January 19th before removal to St. Patrick’s Church, Ballinaheglish. Following Mass of Christian Burial on Monday January 20th the interment took place in Oran Cemetery. The chief celebrant of the concelebrated Mass was Fr. Jim Murray a friend of Fr. Morris and the graveside prayers were recited by Bishop Kevin Doran.

LATE MR MICHAEL KELLY 

The death took place on Sunday January 12th at his residence of Mr Michael (Mickey) Kelly, Ballymoe Road, Glenamaddy and formerly of Ardagh, Glinsk. Of a quiet and unassuming nature he was a gifted mechanic and a master of his passion in motor vehicle repairs. Predeceased by his parents, Paddy and Annie, sisters, Margaret and Chris and brother, Martin he will be greatly missed by his wife, Catherine; sons, Michael, Kieran, and Kevin; daughter, Geraldine; grandchildren, Nicole, Rachel, Rebecca, Ciara, Claire, Annie, Nora, Michael, Emma, Laura, Keith and his wife Olivia. He is also survived by his brothers, Pat and Gerard (Glinsk); sister Mary; daughters-in-law, Catherine, Angela and Fiona; great-grandchildren, Mila and Julian; sisters-in-law, Teresa and Nora; brothers-in-law, Oliver and Jimmy; nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and many friends. Following Mass of the Resurrection at St. Patrick’s Church Glenamaddy, the burial took place in the new cemetery, Glenamaddy.

LATE MR JIMMY MULVIHILL 

The sudden death took place recently of Mr Jimmy Mulvihill, Birmingham, England and formerly of Toberroe, Glinsk. He lived in the UK for over 50 years, having emigrated in 1971. He was a noted Gaelic footballer in his day and was a key figure playing for Glinsk in the late sixties and early seventies. He played in the Mid Board minor final in 1967 and he also played in the minor league final in 1968 which Glinsk lost by a point to Oran. He also played U-21, junior and senior for Creggs before he emigrated. Predeceased by his parents, Bernard and Bridget; sister, Mary Ellen; brothers-in-law, Dan and Liam; Brenda and grand -niece, Maria, he is survived by his brothers, Bernie and Pat; sisters, Rita and Margaret; brother-in-law, James; sisters-in-law, Ann and Maureen; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. His remains reposed at Divilly’s Funeral Home, Glenamaddy on Monday January 27th before removal to St. Michaels’s Church, Glinsk. Following Mass of the Resurrection on Tuesday January 28th the burial took place in Ballinakill Cemetery.

LATE MR MICHAEL COSTELLO 

The peaceful death took place on Sunday, February 2nd at the Mayo Hospice, Castlebar of Mr Michael Costello, Sonas Nursing Home, Knock and formerly of Aghamore, County Mayo/Clooncullane, Creggs and the UK. Michael was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Mary Kate and brothers ,Eamonn and John Joe. He will be greatly missed by his daughters, Tracy and Paula and their mother, Della. He is also mourned by his brothers ,Laurence, Seamus, Paul, Christy and Kevin; sister, Evelyn; son-in-law, Jonathan; grandson, Harry; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, extended family members and friends. His remains reposed at Divilly’s Funeral Home, Glenamaddy on Monday, February 3rd before removal to St. Patrick’s Church, Glenamaddy. Following Mass of the Resurrection on Tuesday, February 4th the burial took place in the new cemetery, Glenamaddy.

SYMPATHY 

Sympathy is extended to Mrs Mary Keane, Newtown and also to her brothers, Pat, Marty Noel and Tommie on the recent death of their aunt Eileen O’Neill in the USA.

CASTLEPLUNKETT/ KILMURRY 

CHANGE OF DATE 

Castleplunkett Development Association has announced that the Valentine’s celebration with the Roscommon Men’s Choir due to take place this Thursday, February 13th will now take place on Saturday, April 12th. The event will take place in the Trinity Arts Centre in Castlerea at 8.30 p.m. Tickets are €20 each and available on Eventbrite or on the door on the night. All proceeds will go towards the development of the amenity site in Castleplunkett village. Get your tickets and come along for a great night of entertainment.

A pitch co-ordinator is needed for this year, as well as physio/first aid for the club's adult teams.
