NEW TAUGHMACONNELL COMMUNITY COUNCIL ELECTED 

The households within the respective rural townlands of Taughmaconnell Parish recently voted in a new Community Council for the parish for a three year term. The new executive committee has also been formed for a one year term. The officers are; President, Tim Farrell; Vice-President, John Feehily; Chairperson, Seamus Kelly; Vice-Chairperson, Daniel Curley; Secretary, Sam Brooks; Asst Secretary, Caroline Finneran; Joint Treasurers, Maura Kelly and Rose Phelan and PRO, Seamus Kelly. The membership of the Community Council is comprised of the following townland area representatives: Castlesampson, Oliver Coffey; Esker/ Esker Beg, John Feehily; Cuilmore/ Culfatha/Dugra, Maria Keogh; Antrane/Racepark/Carrowduff, Sam Brooks; Turlougmore/Churchpark/Shraduff, Maura Kelly; Knock/Shraduff, Daniel Curley; Glananea/Onagh/Chapel Street, Eoin Finneran; Dundonnell, Ronan Kelly; Kilkenny/Feacle, Cathal Glennon; Keoghville/Tavanagh, Gerry McHugh; Skyvalley, Liam Kildea; Killeglan/Lugboy, Tim Farrell; Coolfree/Rockland, Caroline Finneran; Camlagh/Carranure, Seamus Kelly; Cloonkeen, Sinead Kelly; Clonbigney/Glanmore, Rose Phelan; Carrowreagh, Dermot Harney; Clonadron/Cloncoran, Colm Manning and Togher/Gortanabla, Antoinette Gallagher. Since its initial formation back at the turn of the eighties, the members of Taughmaconnell Community Council have co-ordinated a number of diverse community initiatives and projects in the parish. At the January monthly meeting sympathy was extended to the Glynn family, Camlagh, on the recent death of John Glynn and the Grehan family, Carranure, on the recent death of their aunt, Mrs Nora Donoghue in the USA.

BEREAVED 

Mrs Lorraine Kenny, Falty, Oldtown, Athlone, has been bereaved by the death of her mother, Mrs Marion Gillooly, Chapel Street, Elphin. Aged 85 in June last, she was the former Ms Marion Toolan, Drinane, Strokestown. She had been the sacristan at St Patrick's Church, Elphin, for upwards of 20 years and she was respected by the community for her devotion to the role and her tact and discretion. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she was an obliging neighbour and trustworthy friend. An engaging conversationalist, she enjoyed walking and reading as her main hobbies. She was predeceased six years by her husband, Peter and is survived by sons, Michael, Roscommon; Peter, Turloughmore, County Galway; daughters, Mrs Lorraine Kenny and Mrs Fiona Henry, Collooney, Sligo. The last surviving member of a family of three girls, she is also survived by 13 grandchildren and a number of other relatives. Following Mass of the Resurrection at St Patrick's Church, Elphin, the burial took place in the adjoining cemetery.

HOLY HOUR 

Very Rev. Michael McManus, PP, Kiltoom and Cam, will host a Holy Hour at St Brigid's Church, Curraghboy, on this Thursday, February 5th, at 8 p.m..

MISSION APPEAL 

The Vincentian lay missionaries wish to express their thanks to the parishioners of Kiltoom and Cam for their welcome and response to their mission appeal in 2025. They raised €1,657, which will go towards providing a health centre in Masanga, Tanzania with a container of medical supplies and equipment.

CARD DRIVE WINNERS 

The winners of the weekly progressive 25 card drive at the St Brigid's Handball Complex in Curraghboy on Tuesday night last were Mrs Marion Lynch, Kevin Donnelly, Mark Doyle, Mrs Mary Duignan, Mrs Marion Dunning, Paddy Dolan, Padraig Seery, Mrs Sarah Seery, Peter McHugh, Willie Gacquin, Liam Fallon and Michael Keenan.

ELECTED VICE-CHAIRPERSON 

Cllr Emer Kelly, Creher, Ballyforan, was elected vice-chairperson of the newly formed Local Community Safety Partnership at a meeting in the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon. The Local Community Safety Partnership replaces the Roscommon Joint Policing Committee and will meet approximately four times a year with one meeting open to the general public. Cllr Kelly, an Independent councillor and the current vice-chairperson of the Athlone Municipal District, received in excess of 20 votes. Castlerea based Fianna Fail Cllr Pascal Fitzmaurice was elected chairperson of the body. The new committee is comprised of community representatives, gardaí, HSE, Tusla, youth services and other groups. Supt James O'Leary represented the gardaí at the meeting. Cllr Kelly was elected a member of member of Roscommon County Council for the Athlone Electoral Area in 1921.

MOORE UNITED 

The Moore United Soccer Club is marking the 50th anniversary of its formation this year and a special booklet is being published to formally mark the occasion. All past soccer players, officials and managers with the club are requested to provide photos, memorabilia and match reports for the booklet. RESUMED ACTIVITIES 

Adult badminton sessions are once again up and running at Moore Community Hall. They are taking place on Sundays at 9 a.m., Mondays at 8 p.m. and Wednesdays at 9 p.m.. All are welcome. Meanwhile, Unislim classes are taking place at the same venue every Thursday from 5.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.. New members are welcome to come along. Contact Nuala on 0877913387 for more details.
