The eight-week Moonlight Community Training Programme is back and the perfect way to start the New Year, get active, and prepare for the Moonlight Community Challenge. Open to walkers, joggers, and runners of all abilities every Monday and Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Roscommon Community Sports Park Walkers will be very well catered for this year, with a dedicated build-up to a 5K walking challenge. The Roscommon Community Challenge takes place on Friday, March 6th at 8 p.m..
Irish language for beginners calling at Beár an Ráill,e Abbeytown, Roscommon from Thursday, January 8th, 6.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and continuing every Thursday until Easter 2026. These will continue if sufficient interest. Free of charge. Little preparation provided or expected.
Local studies at Roscommon Library recently received a lovely collection of early 20th century children’s books, including ‘Taibhse an Chrainn’ by Douglas Hyde from a borrower in Brideswell. These are fine examples of Irish readers for children from this early period. You can request to take a look at these items in the Local Studies reading room at Roscommon Library. This area has a large collection of books, journals and history files which are available to view in the quiet reading room. On behalf of Fr Joe, the wider parish of Kilteevan and Roscommon, Fr. Kevin Fallon PP offers sincere best wishes to Fr. Seán as he retires from his ministry in the Kilteevan parish area. Fr. Seán has served his parishioners with great warmth and commitment over the 18 years and he will be greatly missed. It has been a pleasure to work with Fr. Seán on the parish team, and all look forward to his continuing his chaplaincy at the Sacred Heart Hospital, as well as his support for the chaplaincy at Roscommon University Hospital and Roscommon Hospice.

A huge thank you to the Roscommon One Town One Voice Community Choir for raising €1282.98 which will go towards paying running costs for groups and programmes in 2026 at Vita House Family Centre LIVING WELL Living Well is a free HSE programme which helps people living with a long-term health condition to manage their condition and improve their overall wellbeing. Anyone with any chronic illness such as diabetes, arthritis, COPD, cardiac illness, anxiety, etc. can benefit from these workshops. The next programme commences on Thursday, January 22nd at 10.30 a.m. in the Cube Building Roscommon Town.

Congratulations to Christine Mannion who was chosen as Clubperson of the Year at the recent breakfast morning held by Glinsk Ladies Football Club. Christine has done trojan work on behalf of Glinsk LGFA over the years. She has served the club as an administrator, player, manager, trainer and county board delegate. Christine was presented with her award by junior team manager Laurence Cunningham.
The death took place recently in the UK of Mr John Lohan, Birmingham, England and formerly of Glinsk. Predeceased by his parents, Jimmy and Una and baby sister, Marie, he is survived by his siblings, Mary, Bridie, Seamus, Noel, Eileen and Carmel; brothers-in- law, Michael, Paddy and Martin; aunt, Bridie; nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends. His remains reposed at Divilly's Funeral Home, Glenamaddy where friends and relations gathered to sympathise with the family. Following Mass of the Resurrection at St. Michael's Church, Glinsk the burial took place in Ballinakill Cemetery.
The death took place recently of Mr. Noel Dowd, Ballythomas, Creggs. Predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Catherine and brothers Frank and Martin he will be greatly missed by his sisters, Rosaleen Carr, Ann Crehan, and Kathleen Monaghan, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends. His remains reposed at Cunningham's Funeral Home, Newbridge, before removal to St.Mary's Church, Kilbegnet. Following Mass of the Resurrection at St.Mary's Church the burial took place in Kilbegnet Cemetery.

The peaceful death took place on Thursday, December 18th at University Hospital, Galway of Mrs Kathleen Geraghty, nee Connolly, Gurteen, Cloonfad, and formerly of Ahalative, Creggs. Kathleen was predeceased by her husband, John and her parents, Mary and James. She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Berenice; son, Thomas; sisters, Noreen, Anne and Mary Jo; brothers, Pat Tom, Peter, Jimmy and Martin; son- in- law, Sean; nephews, nieces, neighbours and friends. Her remains reposed at the PJ Keane Funeral Home, Cloonfad and was followed by reception into St. Patrick's Church, Cloonfad. Following Requiem Mass the burial took place in Cloonfad Cemetery.
The Annual General Meeting of Glinsk GAA club was held recently in the new school. A large crowd attended the meeting, which was well presented by club secretary Damien Brennan with additional reports by treasurer Eamon Hegarty and chairman Tommie Kenny. The chairman offered condolences to those who lost loved ones during the year. Larry Cunningham informed the meeting he has donated a cup to the county board in memory of his son Gerard. After six very successful years Stephen Brennan stepped down as junior team manager.
