JUBILEE OF MARRIAGES 

Couples of celebrating their silver, ruby, golden or diamond wedding anniversaries are invited to attend a Jubilee Mass, along with their families and friends on Sunday, September 22nd at 2.30 p.m. in St. Brigid’s Church, Fourmilehouse or Sunday, October 6th at 2.30 p.m. in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Sligo. Light refreshments will be served after both Masses for all in attendance. As each couple celebrating an anniversary will receive a certificate from Bishop Kevin, they are asked to register their details at www.elphindiocese.ie/jubilee2024

ST. KEVIN’S NEWS 

The Castlerea St. Kevin’s Team defeated St. Aidan’s in the Division 1 County Minor Championship at Ballyforan on July 18th by 1-16 to 0-4. Team: Abdul Satter, Cian Fitzmaurice, James Hawkshaw, Conor Larkin, Yani Chiforic, Liam Finneran, Dara Curran, Jamie Dowd, Dylan Keane, Sean Vaughan, Kevin Hester, John Farrell, Kaylum Curran, John Curran, Cormac Beatty, Subs: James Bligh, Cian Bruen, Alan Joyce, Jack Dolan, Oisin Fleming. Management: Noel Curran, Tommy Finneran, Michael McDermott.

The Castlerea St. Kevin’s minor team drew with Roscommon Gaels 2-7 to 1-10 in the Division 1 County Championship on July 20th. The Castlerea St. Kevin’s U-13 team defeated Boyle in the semi-final of the Keenan Cup at O’Rourke Park on Saturday, July 27th on the score of 5-8 to 4-10. This was a fine game of football by two very committed teams who played football as it should be and can be played. They showed great skill, great team work and took some excellent scores and the only pity was that there had to be a loser. LATE MRS CATHERINE PADIAN 

The death occurred peacefully on Sunday, July 28th in the loving care of the doctors and nurses at Mayo University Hospital, Castlebar, of Mrs Catherine (Kitty) Padian (nee Burke) of Laragh, Castlerea, Ballintubber and formerly of Barrack Street, Castlerea. She was predeceased by her husband Tom. Deceased was a very kind, generous and jolly person and a wonderful neighbour who always had great time for people, both young and old. Anyone who frequented her home was always made most welcome. With her late husband Tom, who passed away in April 2023, she went to London in 1967. They got married in London in November 1968 and returned to live in Laragh in 1969. They had five children of whom they were very proud. She loved to socialise and herself and Tom went everywhere together. She was an avid reader of the Roscommon Herald. She also enjoyed her mobile phone, which kept her in touch with her family and friends. She loved cooking. She also took great pride in her garden. She had great time for her most loyal friend, her dog Belle who was always with her. She was a great family person and loved the family gatherings especially at Christmas time. She adored her grandchildren and loved when they would come to visit her. She was also a woman of great faith. She was a wonderful, wife, mother and grandmother and she will be sadly missed by her family sons, Michael (Offaly), Tom (Ballintubber); daughters Caroline Morris (Sligo), Winne (Ballintubber), Trisha Kennedy ( Australia); sons-in-law, Eamon and Dave; daughters-in-law, Angela and Sinead; grandchildren Michelle, Jessica, Zoe, Aoife, Sophia, Katie, Ella and Noah; brother, Danny (Castlerea) and her sister Florrie Corcoran (Dudley, UK), with whom she was close, they always kept in touch, sister-in-law, Mary, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, neighbours and many friends. Her remains were removed from her home on Friday morning, August 2nd to St. Bride’s Church, Ballintubber and following Mass of the Resurrection celebrated by Fr. Julian Lupot, burial took place in Ballintubber Cemetery. Before the final blessing, her daughter Winne read a reflection on Kitty’s life. The ceremony was enhanced by the wonderful singing and music of Mr Joe Healy, Ballintubber Church Choir. May her gentle soul rest in peace.

The winning bonus ball number in Castlerea Golf Club lotto for August 7th was 25 . Winners of this week’s lotto were Helen Farrelly, Michael Moran, Brian Stenson,Lisa O’Donnell and Colin Butler. Each receive €100.

FUNDRAISING CLOTHING COLLECTION 

Lisacul Community Development is undertaking a fundraising clothing collection. Bags can be dropped off at Lisacul Community Centre (F45VY24) between August 22nd and September 4th.. The office is open 9.30 a.m. – 1.30 p.m. (Monday-Friday). The group can accept clothing, paired shoes, handbags and soft toys, but cannot accept duvets, pillows, blankets or soiled, ripped clothes. Clean folded bedding and curtains can be accepted in a separate bag.

BALLYMOE/BALLINTUBBER 

KILCROAN CEMETERY 

 The annual cemetery Mass will take place in Kilcroan Cemetery, Ballymoe on Sunday, August 18th at 3 p.m.. A collection will be held on the day to help towards the maintenance of the cemetery, Your support would be greatly appreciated.

The Kilcroan Cemetery Committee would like to sincerely thank everyone who turned up on Sunday last to clean the cemetery in preparation for the Mass. A special thanks to the young people who did trojan work on the day. They are a credit to their families. The committee would kindly ask that anyone cleaning graves take away the wreaths or old flowers from the cemetery. The next cleanup will be on Sunday, September 8th at 10 a.m..

CLOONFAD

END OF SUMMER PARTY 

The Entertainment Committee has announced that it is organising an end of Summer block party in the car park on Sunday, August 25th from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.. Family fun will take place from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.. There will be live music from Diesel from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.. There will be lots of entertainment including music, games, food vendors and local makers. Everyone is invited to celebrate the end of Summer.

Best of luck to former Cloonfad United player, John Mullarkey, who is taking on the challenge of climbing Croagh Patrick each day for a week to raise funds for the Parkinson’s charity. John is wished every success in this venture.
