Castlerea Crusaders Athletics Club members, both junior and senior, were out in force to support the local parkrun Ireland on Saturday last and to support Women in Sport Week.

There will be a meeting in The Cornerstone, Frenchpark on Monday, April 14th at 11 a.m.. This is open to carers, family members and anyone with an interest or concerns about Alzheimer's / Dementia. The Cornerstone Frenchpark is holding classes to help with the basics of using a smartphone. These classes run every Wednesday at 10 a.m.. To sign up call into the Cornerstone between 9.30 a.m. - 130 p.m. during opening hours.
Many have expressed an interest in donating towards a nameplate on a seat in Frenchpark Church in memory of a loved one. Due to the fact that there are no seats remaining, the seats will have to be shared. The nameplate will cost €30. If you are interested, kindly place the name of the deceased in an envelope along with your payment, which can be cash or cheque payable to ‘Frenchpark Church’ and drop it into the collection basket marked ‘Nameplate’ no later than Monday, March 17th next.
Mrs Evelyn Moran, Dun Laoghaire, formerly of Castleknock and Fairymount passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 6th last at St. Vincent’s University Hospital in Dublin. Pre-deceased by her husband ,Michael, the late Mrs Moran (née Patten) is survived by her loving family, daughters, Frances and Gina’ grandchildren, brothers, Michael, Liam and Manus (Pat); sons-in-law, Billy and Jed; sisters-in-law, Rita, Marie and Bernie; extended family and a wide circle of friends. Following Requiem Mass on Tuesday (today) at 10 a.m. in St. Michael's Church, Dun Laoghaire, the funeral will proceed to Clonmacnoise Cemetery in County Offaly.
The peaceful death occurred of Mr Thomas Rock, Clondalkin, Dublin and late of Runnaboll, Ballinameen on Sunday, February 23rd last at St. James's Hospital, Dublin. Predeceased by his wife, Bridget, father, Bernard, mother, Kathleen, and his brother Benny in 2015, he will be sadly missed by his loving daughter, Catherine; son, Andrew; grandson, Finn and his dad James; brother, Padraig; sisters, Agnes Gannon, Marian Keenehan and Kathleen Wynne; extended family, neighbours and friends. Following Funeral Mass. in The Church of the Immaculate Conception, Clondalkin Village on Saturday, March 8th last, Tommy was laid to rest in Palmerstown Cemetery.

The death took place peacefully of Mr Aidan Murtagh, Knockroe, Castlerea and formerly of Lisphillip, Ballinameen on Sunday, March 2nd last at Aras Mathair Phoil. Aidan is deeply regretted by his loving wife, Mary; brothers, Joe (Ballinameen) and Cyril (Birmingham); sister-in-law, Phil; brothers-in-law, Sean and Charlie; nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours, friends and his loyal canine companion Lily. His remains were removed from Gaynor’s Funeral Home to St. Patrick’s Church, Castlerea on Monday evening week last. Mass of the Resurrection on Tuesday, March 4th last, was followed by burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Castlerea.

Western Gaels held its weekly lottery draw on Saturday, March 8th last. There was no winner of the jackpot. The numbers drawn were 11, 15, 17 and 23. Cash prize winners (€20 each) were Martin/Ann Dowd, Marie Hannon, John Madden, Fiona Quinn and Pat Reilly. The next draw (jackpot €8,400) will take place at the clubhouse in Frenchpark on Saturday, March 15th next. Tickets are available on-line through the Clubforce app or from local outlets.
Tulsk GAA Club’s ‘Rossie Ramble’ was launched last Saturday night in O’Connor's Bar, Tulsk. The Rossie Ramble, which is being organised by Tulsk GAA Club, is a gathering of the Roscommon community in the Claddagh Ring Pub, Hendon, London on the eve of the London versus Roscommon Connacht Senior Football Championship game on Friday, April 4th. Included as part of the initiative will be the Rossie Ramble Draw with proceeds going towards the final phase of the Tulsk GAA pitch development.
The March meeting of the County Roscommon Historical and Archaeological Society (CRHAS) will take place in the Rathcroghan Visitor Centre, Tulsk, this evening (Tuesday) March 11th where a talk will be given on the life of the acclaimed Sharkey sisters, who were leading figures in the struggle for Irish freedom during the War of Independence. All members are invited to attend – new members are always welcome.
Tulsk History Society host its annual Quiz Night on this Saturday, March 15th in O’Connor’s Bar, Tulsk. The event is one of the social highlights of the year and is not to be missed!
This weekend is the St. Patrick’s Bank Holiday Weekend. As the national feast day falls on a Monday this year, it’s expected there will be increased traffic volumes passing through the village, particularly on Friday evening and again on Monday. Those traffic volumes may be increased further due to ongoing N5 roadworks, which has resulted in the closure of the Ballinagare to Mantua/Elphin road, with traffic delays on the N61 between Elphin and Tulsk due to temporary traffic lights. All road users are advised to exercise caution if using the roads particularly this weekend. St. Patrick’s Day Mass will take place in Tulsk on Monday at 11.30 a.m. – the Mass reader will be Fergus Moffitt while Kathleen Dixon will be Eucharistic Minister. Vigil Mass in Killina Church will take place the previous evening (Sunday, March 16th) at 7 p.m..
A meeting of the Tulsk Pastoral Council will take place on Wednesday, March 12th at 8 p.m. in Tulsk Presbytery. All members are encouraged to attend.

The senior room students at Clooneyquin National School enjoyed a Tag Rugby blitz in Creggs RFC last week. The pupils’ skills in tag rugby are really developing competing against different schools. Well done to all concerned.
Well done to Tulsk players Shona Hanly and Grace Jones who were part of the Roscommon squad that defeated Wicklow in their Very National Camogie League encounter at the weekend. The side defeated their visitors by 4-10 to 1-10.

Clooneyquin National School’s gala fundraising concert takes place on Saturday, March 29th in the Percy French Hotel, Strokestown. The concert features a great line-up of performers including the Roscommon Men’s Choir, the local Donoghue Brothers and special guests, Cathy Jordan and Sean Regan and of course the children of Clooneyquin National School will also be performing. This is a night not to be missed. Tickets, priced €20 are available from the school, parents and through the school’s Facebook page. Don’t miss this special musical occasion.

The Scor Sinsir county finals took place in Kilmurry Hall last Saturday. Well done to all the participants and to the Kilmurry Hall Committee for staging the event.
