Williamstown Heritage Society has forwarded its page for inclusion in the Mills and Millers calendar for 2024. The benefits in terms of publicity and goodwill in doing this will more than offset the fee involved.

Members are continuing with their Forged Gates project. In this, all members, and also the members of the general public, are asked to take note of any old blacksmith gates, or any other old implements which would have been made in a forge, to photograph them, and if possible, to find out where they were made, and also to list the sites of all the forges which we had in the parish.
We wish every success to the players and management of the Williamstown Intermediate Football team in their preliminary quarter final championship tie against Micheál Breathnachs in Tuam Stadium at 2.45pm on Sunday. All support for this game would be greatly appreciated.
The annual Heritage Tour, open to both members and non-members is on Saturday, October 21st and the plan is to visit the renowned Corlea Trackway (a well-preserved ancient roadway), near Kenagh and also Casey’s Bogwood Sculptures, Newtowncashel. Both of these features are in County Longford and close to each other, so there will be no long distance travelling involved. On the return journey, there will be an end of year meal in Gleeson’s Restaurant, Roscommon. The entire day should be a most enjoyable end to another busy year of activities in the area of heritage. More details will be available next week. All interested in going on this tour are asked to contact Leo at (086 1603043) or finneganleo100@gmail.com as soon as possible.

Glinsk/Creggs Group Water Scheme was among the winners in the 2023 Group Water Scheme Excellence Awards. Organised by the National Federation of Group Water Schemes (NFGWS), the annual awards recognise the hard work and initiative being shown by group water schemes (GWSs) across the country.
Glinsk Creggs Group Water Scheme was revealed as an overall category winner for ‘Water Demand Management and Climate Action’ by Minister for State in the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage (DHLGH), Kieran O’Donnell TD, in a special live announcement at this year’s Rural Water Services Conference. The conference was hosted in the Hodson Bay Hotel.
The scheme was also among the excellence flag winners for three other categories: ‘Water Safety Planning and Quality Assurance Implementation, ‘Community Engagement’ and ‘Biodiversity Enhancement’. Reacting to the news, Glinsk Creggs Group Water Scheme founding member and vice-chairperson, Bert Curley said:
‘Glinsk Creggs GWS was delighted to receive the overall GWS Excellence Award for ‘Water Demand Management and Climate Action’. This is testament to the hard work in managing the supply every day and even in the most challenging weather conditions. We work on the basis of continuous monitoring to avoid or quickly repair leakage. We strive to reduce our unaccounted-for-water each year, which we believe is a major factor in picking up the award.”
