CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOPS 

Creative writing workshops start on Thursday, October 10th at Strokestown Library. There will be a series of four weekly workshops with Louise Cole from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. on Thursdays. The course is free but bring along your PPS number to register. For further details contact Helen at 0906637227.

SCDA FORTNIGHTLY DRAW 

Numbers drawn in the SCDA fortnightly draw on October 1st were 9, 10, 17, 23. There was one Lucky Dip winner - Mary P. Regan, Kilmovee. Next draw will be held on Tuesday, October 15th at the SCDA Office. Thank you for your continued support.

TOWN TEAM MEETING 

The monthly meeting of Strokestown Town Team will be held in the Community Centre on Wednesday, October 16th at 8 p.m.. With many town projects on the agenda, all are welcome to participate and have their say on the future of Strokestown.

SUNDAY MASS 

Mass will be celebrated at Carnaska Church on Sunday, October 12th at 10 a.m., SUNDAY SERVICE Harvest Thanksgiving Service at St. John's Church, Lanesborough, on Sunday, October 13th,at 3 p.m., conducted by Canon Edward Yendall. Everyone welcome!

BROTHERS OF CHARITY SERVICES

 The Brothers of Charity Services are offering training for people who have an interest in becoming a short break carer for children or adults who have an intellectual disability. Places are limited. MEMORY CAFE 

Roscommon Dementia Alliance hosts a memory cafe at Lough Key Forest Park Visitor Centre, Boyle, to help support people affected by dementia, their families and carers, on Wednesday, October 16th October from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and will include music, song, advice and a chat. COMMUNITY PLAYGROUND 

SCDA is planning the re-enhancement of the community playground on The Boreen. It is presently closed due to damage. A "GoFundMe" campaign to help with the repair of the facility has been launched - "Playground Recovery Fund" Strokestown. Please support.

LATE MR EDDIE LEAVY

 The death took place recently at Mullingar Regional Hospital of Mr Edward (Eddie) Leavy of Northyard, Scramogue. A native of Main Street, Lanesborough, he was son of the late Mr James Leavy and of the late Mrs Bridget Leavy. He was a member of the wordwork teaching staff at Longford Vocational School, later Templemichael College, for many years. He was predeceased by his sister, Mrs Anne Matthews, and by his brother, Fr. James Leavy. News of his passing was heard of with deep regret among his relatives, neighbours and friends. The Requiem Mass was celebrated at St. Anne's Church, Scramogue, and the interment followed in the adjoining cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Bridie (nee Feeney); children, Enda, Kevin, Eamonn and Deirdre; grandchildren, Molly, Darragh and Aoibhinn, brothers, Larry and Pat (Lanesborough); sisters, Mrs Mary McGowan (New Jersey, USA) and Mrs Breda O'Loughlin (Killkenny), his children's spouses and partner, Colette, Christina and David, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews and other relatives to whom deepest sympathy is extended.

LATE MRS BERNADETTE GORMLEY 

The death took place recently at her home of Mrs Bernadette Gormley (nee Hunt) of Derrane , wife of Mr Seamus Gormley. A native of Fourmilehouse, she was daughter of the late Mr Paddy Joe Hunt and of the late Mrs Bridie Hunt. She was a highly respected member of her local community who now mourn her passing following a short illness. She was predeceased by her aunt, Mrs Margaret Butler, and by her sister, Marlene. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Derrane, and the interment followed in the adjoining cemetery. She is survived by her husband, children, Claudia, James, Grace, Corina, Alan and Simon; daughters-in-law, Roxana, Teresa and Dhritica; granddaughter, Romee; brother, Padraig, and his wife, Mary; cousin, Mary Flynn, nephews, extended family and other relatives to whom deepest sympathy is extended.

LATE MR BILLY GILLERAN 

The death took place recently at Portiuncula Nursing Home, Multyfarnham, County Westmeath, of Mr Billy Gilleran of Harbour Street, Mullingar, in his 92nd year. A native of Cloonfree, Strokestown, he was son of and the last surviving member of the family of the late Mr Patrick Gilleran and of the late Mrs Bridget Gilleran. He was predeceased by his brother, Hubert (Cloonfree). The Funeral Mass was celebrated at the Cathedral of Christ the King, Mullingar, and the interment followed in Turin Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Lily; children, Liam, Oliver, Enda and Liz; grandchildren, Billy, Daniel and Caoimhe; daughters-in-law, Mary, Bernie and Anne; son-in-law, Cormac; sister-in-law, nephews, nieces and other relatives to whom deepest sympathy is extended.

ROOSKY/KILGLASS 

QUESTIONNAIRES ON BRIDGE ISSUE 

Roosky Residents Association would like to thank all who attended the public meeting regarding the traffic lights trial on Roosky Bridge held last week, also all who helped in preparation for the meeting and a special thanks to the chairperson who ensured the meeting ran smoothly. Questionnaires are still available in local shops and when completed can be returned to the shop for collection by Leitrim County Council.

KILGLASS SICK CHILDREN'S FUND

 The Ladies Night, which was to be held in October, in aid of the Kilglass Sick Children’s Fund, has now been pushed out to a date in 2025. More details nearer the time.

5K FUN RUN AND WALK IN DRUMSNA 

Drumsna Community Resource Centre 5K Fun Run and Walk takes place on Sunday, October 13th starting at 12 noon. Registration from 11 a.m.. Refreshments and prize giving in the centre after the run. All proceeds in aid of day service, meals on wheels, and general running of the centre.
