The death occurred on April 15th, (peacefully) in the care of the doctors, nurses and staff of Sligo University Hospital of Mr Michael Cunningham, Kilvaloon, a well-known contributor to the Ballaghaderreen community in many aspects of sport, art and local culture. Michael was part of the Community Park Committee from its beginning when formed in 1998. He was a guiding light when needed and long long-standing treasurer. He loved politics, farming, music and sport, especially Roscommon GAA and was chairman of the Roscommon LGFA for a number of years. He was legend of the game and was always on the sidelines and ready to deliver for Ballaghaderreen ladies in Roscommon GAA. He was a chairman, trainer, taxi man and whatever else was required of him to see young ladies represent the club and county. He was also an accomplished rugby player and played front row for the local rugby team in the early eighties. He was a great farmer and pedigree cattle was his speciality. His love of music and acting led him to play starring roles in the local musicals and pantomimes. With his extensive contacts, he managed to do some monumental fundraising for the Community Park to help realise a collective dream to bring a sports and recreation park to Ballaghaderreen. A true gentleman, his legacy will live on in the community. Michael will be very sadly missed and remembered with love by his family, his wife ,Tess; son, Michael; daughter, Tracey; son-in-law John; daughter-in-law, Zoe; grandchildren, Aedan, Niamh, Emmett, Aoibhinn, Conal, Éanna; his brothers and sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and his many friends. Following Mass of the Resurrection in the Cathedral of the Annunciation and St. Nathy on Wednesday burial took place in Kilcolman Cemetery.
