ROBERT CAPTAINS ROSCOMMON TO CONNACHT TITLE

Robert Heneghan captained Roscommon to victory over Sligo in the Connacht U-20 semi-final played in COE last Wednesday. They now play Mayo in the final on Wednesday in Tuam Stadium. Robert had been injured since the first round match against Mayo some weeks ago but made a welcome return during the game and made an immediate impact. Lining out in the half forward line, he made some great runs at the Sligo defence in the second half, resulting in some important scores. His cousin Niall had a powerful game at centre field and has had a great season in the county jersey. Both players were outstanding players on the Cloonfad NS Cumann na mBunscoil team that won the historic double of winning the county primary schools titles in both 2017 and 2018. Robert was captain in 2018. Both players have won many county titles at underage level for Michael Glavey’s and the combined Michael Glavey’s/Eire Og team and have represented their county with distinction at underage level. They both have a great future representing club and county and their careers are awaited with much anticipation. They are joined on the county team by another young Michael Glaveys player, Daniel Hagney who will play in the half back line and Brian Greene who plays in the forward line on the club combined team. Cloonfad man and former Roscommon goalkeeper Darren O’Malley is the goalkeeping coach with the team. All Roscommon supporters are urged to make their way to Tuam on Wednesday to support the young stars. These players are a credit to their club and county and they are wished every success in the Connacht Final. Best of luck lads.
