Roscommon Tidy Towns Association will hold its annual church gate collection this weekend, May 3rd and 4th. Funds collected will go towards future projects to enhance the town. Currently, the town is at Gold Medal status. New members are always welcome to join the award-winning group, which meets at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays at the courthouse on Abbey Street. Your support for the collection this weekend would be greatly appreciated.

The AGM of Roscommon Sports Partnership will be held on Wednesday, May 7th at 6 p.m. in The Cube FlexiSpace, Lanesborough Road, Roscommon.

Saturday storytime takes place at Roscommon Library every Saturday at 12 noon (excluding Bank Holidays). .
Roscommon Community Tourist Office is looking for volunteers to help with providing information to tourists/visitors to the town. A good general knowledge of the county would be helpful, but training will be provided. A bus is being organised to the mini marathon taking place on Sunday, June 1st in memory of late Pam Farrell, who for countless years arranged this event. The death occurred on April 23rd, peacefully at her residence, of Mrs Patricia Shannon (nee Harrington) Carane, Castleplunket and formerly of Mallow and Allihies, County Cork. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Johnny, and her brothers, John and Frankie. Loving mother of Peter (Carane) and Bernadette (Farrell, Ballymacurley). Patricia will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her son and daughter, her adored grandchildren, Eileen, Raymond, John, Áine, Patsy, James, Maire, Anthony and Peter and her great-grandchild, Croía. Also, by her sisters, Mary Rudden (Mallow), Julia Walshe (London), Cecilia McLaughlin (Donegal) and Attracta O’Sullivan (Mallow); daughter-in-law Geraldine; son-in-law, Brian; brothers-in-law ,Michael Rudden, Michael Walshe and Sonny O’Sullivan, nephews, nieces, extended family, neighbours and friends. Her remains were removed from McDonagh’s Funeral Home Castlerea, on Sunday evening to Ballinaheglish Church. Following Funeral Mass on Monday burial took place afterwards in Ballintubber Cemetery. May she rest in peace.
The winners of the Progressive 25 drive in Clooneycolgan on Thursday night last were as follows: Joint 1st, Betty Coyne and Fr George Agger; 2nd, Brendan Mc Dermott; 3rd, Liam .Corcoran; table prize, Denis Healy. Next game is on Thursday at 9 p.m.. This will be the final game for the season.

The death took place on Sunday, April 13th at St. Francis Nursing Home, Kilkerrin of Miss Maura Reilly, Rusdaul, Glinsk. Aged 82, she had been in ill health for a short time and she bore her illness with characteristic fortitude and bravery. She received her early education at Toberroe NS and the Convent of Mercy, Roscommon. Following her formal education she embarked on a career in nursing at the Meath Hospital in Dublin. She was then appointed to the staff of the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital where she worked for many years as a ward manager and Night Sister. She was committed to improving the quality of patient care through her clinical proficiency coupled with a real sense of duty and responsibility. She was blessed with a pleasant personality and she had a special ability to develop and nurture friendships and to show empathy and understanding. Following her retirement she returned to live in Rusdaul, which gave her a chance to indulge in her hobbies like gardening and tending to her donkeys, ponies and cats. She supported a number of church led activities and was a member of the Altar Society and the Parish Council for many years. Predeceased by her parents, James and Bridget and brothers, John, Bob, Sonny and Leo, she is survived by her nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, cousins, neighbours and many friends. Her remains reposed at Divilly’s Funeral Home, Glenamaddy before removal to St. Michael’s Church, Glinsk. Following Mass of the Resurrection on Thursday April 17th the burial took place in Kilcolumb Cemetery.

The peaceful death occurred on Tuesday, April 8th at University Hospital, Castlebar of Mrs Margaret Moylette (nee Joyce) Willsbrook, Castlerea and formerly of Kilmacrickard, Glinsk. Margaret trained as a psychiatric nurse at St. Brigid’s Hospital, Ballinasloe in the 1950s and she also worked in Castlerea for a number of years. She was predeceased by her husband, Tom, her parents, Paddy and Mary and brothers, Willie, Tom and Pat. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and she will be greatly missed by her sons, Tom, Mick, Gearoid and Cathal; daughter , Maura; sisters, Annie, Mary, Celia, Bea, Eileen and Kay; brothers, John , Vincent, Stephen and Fr. Michael; grandchildren, in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. The funeral Mass and burial took place in Castlerea.
The peaceful death occurred on Wednesday, April 23rd at Sonas Nursing Home, Cloverhill of Mrs Mary Raftery, (nee Cunningham) Ballincurry, Glinsk. Predeceased by her parents, Kate and John, she is deeply mourned by her husband, Dannie, daughters, Ann Marie Donohoe, Cathy McCormack and Margaret Heavin, sisters, Una and Sadie and sons-in- law Aidan, Tommie and Ciaran. Mary is also mourned by her grandchildren, Daniel, Alanna, Mya, Laura, Olivia, Liam, Aoife Lily, Darragh and Emma, nieces, nephews, extended family members, relatives, neighbours and friends. Her remains reposed at Smyth’s Funeral Home, Roscommon on Friday evening April 25th and following Mass of the Resurrection on Saturday, April 26th at St. Michael’s Church, Glinsk, the burial took place in Ballinakill Cemetery. Before the final blessing Mary’s granddaughter Alanna gave a beautiful eulogy of her granny’s life and her daughter Cathy did a reflection. The Mass was concelebrated by Fr. Cino and Fr. Liam Kelly, a native of Glinsk. The music in the church was provided by Jacqueline Kenny, Castlerea.
